2nd Verse Same As 1st & Boxing Jeopardy
By William Trillo
Due to circumstances beyond our control Billy’s Boxing Blog bit the dust sometime at the end of last year and it’s taken a while to put all the pieces back together again. During my hiatus I was able to recharge my batteries while keeping a keen eye on the boxing landscape. There were some newsworthy highlights that I would like to touch on in my return.
Sergey Kovalev’s domination over Jean Pascal was as impressive as it was scary. Kovalev taught Pascal a lesson he will never forget. It’s doubtful anyone will disparage Kovalev with any ill advised pre-fight hyperbole again.
Of course the hope of every boxing fan this year is that Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will face off in a middleweight title unifying barnburner. Those hopes are not dashed but the fighters have both chosen other fights to start off their 2016 campaigns.
If you were expecting me to come out guns a blazing in my return you would be slightly mistaken.
On April 23rd “GGG” will take on Dominic Wade at The Forum in Los Angeles. For those of you crying, “Dominic who?” please calm down. It’s simple. As we all know Gennady’s mission is to capture each and every 160 pound belt on the planet and to do so he is going to have to meet his mandatory defense requirements. As Golovkin said at the Los Angeles press conference, “You ask me why Wade? He’s undefeated and IBF mandatory challenger,” That’s good enough for me….no sour grapes here.
Now on to Canelo……
As soon as it was announced that Canelo would be taking on Amir Khan in Las Vegas on May 7th the boxing chatrooms went wild calling this 155 catchweight title fight a complete sham. There are not many at all, if any, who like this fight. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not in love with the fight but I think it has potential to be a good time while it lasts. Trust me, I am certain Khan will end up in the prone position before the night is over but this fight actually could be a fan pleaser. The icing on the cake here is we will have a Cinco De Mayo weekend in Las Vegas without having to deal with Floyd Mayweather Jr…..nutin’ could be finer.
Boxing Blog Jeopardy
I am not Alex Trebek but for the sake of argument let’s pretend I am for this thought. You know the Jeopardy rules, right? I am going to give you the answers below and it’s up to you to phrase your answer to it in the form of a question. A $15 Starbucks gift card goes first person to correctly answer this one.
Ready?
And the Boxing Blog Jeopardy Answer is:
Charles Martin, Amir Khan and Dominic Wade
Good luck.

Your blog still has a few problems, including I can’t reply in the space provided.
Kovalev did to Pascal exactly what most of us expected. It’s time to face Ward, Stevenson or Beterbiev. No other light heavyweights will give him a decent fight.
Alvarez v Khan for a middleweight world title is a disgrace to boxing. Uncle Mauricio has gone too far this time.
The IBF hasn’t exactly covered itself in glory by ranking Wade so highly. I wonder which middleweight title fight will last longer.
And the question is:
name three boxers who don’t deserve to be in world title fights this year and who will get knocked out.
Thanks for letting me know and even a bigger thanks for hanging in there with us.
Stevenson and Beterbiev both are PBC property so that MAY be a bit of a problem. Key Word MAY, as it is unclear how the PBC product pans out this year, they may be looking for other entities to foot some of their bill. As for Kovalev vs. Ward…seeing is believing.
Mauricio is my pretend cousin, Jose was my pretend Tio. Long live the WBC.
Wade is a Q to me too.
Though your question is valid it is not the answer I am looking for.
