What Happened Yesterday?
“We were doing one of those teleconferences and its obvious he’s
been fighting guys who were scared of him. He started talkin trash.
I ain’t scared of him, but he cant talk to me in that manner. Im
world class, talking about he gonna eat me. I’ll beat your fuckin’
head in. My record isn’t built on fighters who were scared of me.”
What do you know about Samuel Peter?
“Everything. I know everything about him. I know he was a converted
southpaw. He throws the right hand like an amateur. He can only
fight on the inside for 8 to 15 seconds before he needs to go out
for air. I watched him like a hawk. I know everything. This guy was
saying, “I know nothing about this man, blah, blah, blah.....”,
that, to me, is wrong.”
Who are the best heavyweights right now?
“There really aren’t any. There is no pound for pound heavyweight
out there willing to step up and be the number 1.”
Who are the worst?
“Take your pick.”
Who do you want to fight most?
“Lame Brewster. In LA. I think that would be great for the city
because we’re both from here. Our styles compliment each other and
it would be a real good fight. I’d love to fight John Ruiz. I fought
him 5 times in the amateurs, beat him all 5 times. I dare Ruiz to
fight me.”
Who is your toughest challenge?
Well, every guy you fight is a challenge, but I wouldn't prefer to
fight guys who are 6' 7" and
6' 8". Guys like the Klitschko’s. It makes no sense for me.”
Vitali Klitschko fights Danny Williams in one week, what are your
thoughts?
“I’ve only seen Williams fight once and that was against a Tyson who
was a shell of himself, so I really can’t say much for Danny
Williams.”
What do you think of James Toney trying to make waves in the
heavyweights?
“Toney is a phenomenal fighter. He doesn’t punch hard enough to be a
heavyweight, in fact I remember sparring with him and he doesn’t
punch hard at all. He’s a great fighter, but I don’t see him being
that big in the heavyweights.”
It’s been over 4 years since your last loss and you’re 6-0 with 4
KO’s, what have you changed?
“I started taking my profession seriously. I made a goal, to become
heavyweight champion of the world. Im gonna die trying to get my
goal. It’s not about being rich to me. It’s not about being famous.
It’s about being heavyweight champion of the world. Im in the GYM at
8am everyday. Sometimes I don’t leave until 12:30pm. Everyday.”
You’re on an amazing card, tell me what you think of the fights.
“Im excited to see Jeff lacy and Omar Sheika. That’s gonna be a
great, exciting fight. Lacy is very strong and a good boxer. Sheika
used to be a great boxer, but he threw the skill out the window.
That makes for an exciting fight. I cant wait.
Now Jose Luis Castillo and Joel Casamayor, that’s a good
combination. Im excited to watch both of those. Im very proud to be
on this great card.”
What should we expect in your fight on Saturday?
“You’ll see a Jeremy Williams that you haven’t seen in a long time.
My plans will come true in becoming heavyweight champion and it
begins with Sam Peter. Whether it’s 1 round or 12 rounds, Im gonna
win. Im gonna beat the hell out of this guy.”
