Gives His Thoughts On Countries Awards....And More

Last night, December 21st, Puerto Rico's Boxing Commission held it's annual awards ceremony at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Isla Verde, P.R. Rising 140 pound superstar, Miguel Cotto, was given the "Boxer of the Year" award and Felix "Tito" Trinidad was given the "Comeback of the Year" award.

We all know the merits that each one of these boxers accumulated to earn these awards: Just a reminder - Cotto fought four times in 2004, starting with a KO over Victoriano Sosa, a unanimous decision over Lovemore NDou, KO over another prospect in Kelson Pinto and with this win he won the W.B.O. 140 pound title and he finished (or pounded, whichever you prefer) the year with a KO of Randal Bailey.

"Tito" Trindad made his eagerly awaited comeback with a KO of the Nicaraguan badboy, Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga in Madison Square Garden. But the most interesting news of the night came from "Tito's" father, Don Felix Trinidad Sr. He told all the local media and press present that Don King informed him that the fight with "Winky" Wright is on and the tentative date is March 19, 2005, possibly Madison Square Garden again. Yet local papers have also quoted "Winky" saying that there is still no financial agreement.

Who is telling the truth? I really don't know. But what I do know is that until the highly anticipated re-match with Bernard Hopkins comes through, if it ever comes through, this is a good fight to watch in the interim.

Keep a close eye, anything can happen in this New Year 2005, and Boxing2005.com will keep youinformed on this matter and all the others that arise.

Good Night and God Bless and may you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
