This Saturday night in the Gary Shaw promoted card at The Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas, Winky Wright (47-3, 25 KO's) and Shane Mosley (30-3, 39 KO's) met in a rematch for the Undisputed Super Welterweight crown that Wright secured from Mosley in their first match just a few months ago. Their first bout was an exciting and action packed event, and the second time around had just as many thrills for the 8,103 in attendance, as well as the HBO television audience.

From our ringside seat it appeared the Wright was dominant and in control of most of the rounds, but judges scorecards seemed to reflect a much closer fight took place than most at ringside observed. Winky Wright received questionably close scores in the rematch with Shane Mosley, where Wright seemed to have a wide edge. Scores which read an absurd 114 to 114 on one card and the 113-115 on
the other two cards was still too close for comfort. The only rounds that Shane clearly won were rounds that were seemingly given away by Winky, who decided to fight one stanza with his hands at his side, daring Shane to tee off, and in round 8 Winky took on a peek a boo posture allowing Shane to land many hard but non threatening punches.

The bout was filled with its share of high drama action that had the crowd on their feet and cheering at different points throughout the slugfest.
In round 1, Shane came out aggressively moving and throwing as Winky patiently surveyed the landscape. Mosley used some light punching flurries to accumulate an edge and it worked as all three judges saw the round in Shanes favor.
Round 2 saw Winky step up the attack using that very same effective jab that took him to the title in the previous fight. Winky lands a nice right hand and is quickly countered by a sharp left from Mosley, which prompts Winky to implore Shane to say "c'mon", letting Shane know he was going to have to do better than that! Round to Winky!

By the 3rd  Winky had taken on the look of a Champion and with that, he puts some hurt on Shane who for the first time appears hurt, choosing to back peddle his way through most of the round that went the way of Wright again!
Wright keeps up the work in the 4th round starting out with a hook followed by a sharp one-two combo.

Mosley again turns the gears into a retreat fighting a good potion of this fight with his back to the ropes. The sweat was flying, and a nice combo in the last seconds puts another notch in the Wright scorecard.

Now, you can call it bravado, or machismo, I think some might call it just down right foolish, but after Shane lands a nice hook at the start of round 5,Winky decides to show off his grit by letting Sugar tee off on him like Vijay Singh on a par 5. And with what proved to be a near costly mistake Winky gets clocked and hurt, but somehow survives a round that he clearly threw away!

Winky gathers his senses in number 6 and with a nice jab he gets Mosley to retreat to the ropes once again, and although Mosley lands some pity pat punches, they are not enough and Winky takes another round!

In 7 the pace slows again and although it looks as though he is just trying to land the one big punch, he does enough to get the judges to give the round to him.

In a throwback to yesteryear, Winky puts on a peek-a-boo act and in doing so throws away another round. Round 8 goes to Mosley! Believe it or not, this fight is a majority decision draw with just 4 rounds left to go, and one judge has a 2 point edge for Shane!

As number 9 got under way, Shane starts out on the offensive and is even playing possum, trying to catch Wright off guard, both fighters land some big punches but the punch that landed at the end by Shane may have swayed some to score it for him!

Another nice round of action for the fans as Winky tries to be the aggressor again but Shane won't let up and it makes for some nice exchanges. Again, round 10 can go either way, and the judges scorecards a re evidence of that!

The "Championship Rounds" begin with Winky putting the pressure on right away, Shane appears to be getting hurt with punches that are coming from over and under! The fight is starting to get a little ugly and dirty as both are looking to get the edge in this fight that was going to go to the cards soon.

The last round of the night begins, and in my books, Shane needs a KO to win, but that's why I am not a judge, I guess, because this fight can still be taken from Winky if things go awry. A flash knockdown or a point taken away could have sent this one into a real mess. Thankfully, the round played out pretty clean and controversy free, leaving things in the "capable" hands of the judges!

Both fighters looked like they thought they were going to get the nod, but when the scores were read, Wright was justly given the win, allowing him to hold onto his belts! Once again scores read, 115-113, 114-114 &115-113. Boxing2004 had it 117-113 for Wright! To get

In defeat, Mosley, who is now under the guidance of Joe Goosen looked much sharper than in their previous bout, but on this night it was not enough to reclaim the belts he once owned. All in all it was an entertaining fight but there is no question that the right decision was made, albeit a bit too close for most observers even though Shane and his camp where extremely surprised when the scores didn't read Mosley as the New Super Welterweight Champion!

After the fight Winky said he just wanted to show that he could take a punch, and now he wants Felix Trinidad!

A gracious Mosley told his fans he was giving it his all, trying to bang with a good fighter, but it just didn't work out!

Okay, first let me apologize for my late night incorrect posting of this fight,
I inadvertently scored the fight in favor of Olajide instead of the real winner Ian Gardner. Allow me to come to my own defense by saying this was one of the ugliest, and most boring fights I have ever seen! Both fighters should have benn DQ'd just for lack of fighting alone! The crowd was booing from start to end, and if it were not for a couple of fan pleasing attempts at body slams the night would have went on
without a cheer. And when  the takedown was finally taken and Olajide had his man on the canvas the fans went wild! That's a highlight? Both these fighters should be ashamed of their performance and just being ranked in the top 20 should have been enough for these guys to show more than some light dancing and a couple wrestling holds.

Now to be honest, I really didn't care who took this fight but it is my job to report the scores correctly!

So, in the NABO & NABC 154 Title fight, Ian Gardner takes a majority decision over Tukunbo 113-115, 114-114, 112 117. I stand corrected!

The rest of the card reads as follows!

Henry Buchanan (166.5) defeats William Harmon (171) by TKO at 2;47 of the first round

Jose Celaya wins by TKO at 1:59 of round 3 over Alphonso Wiiliams in a battle at 162 lbs.

Lightweight Jose Celaya in a unanimous decision over Juan Zuniga in a 4 rounder
