The “Black Panther” Is Back

Cuban Juan Carlos Gomez (33) steps back in the ring. The former WBC-Cruiserweight-Champ (39-1-0) starts his comeback this Friday in the “Alsterdorfer Sporthalle” against Brazilian Daniel Frank.The two fighters have met before. Four years ago Gomez won in Berlin by TKO in the second round. Gomez was supposed to fight in his premiere fight for his new camp, Arena Box-Promotion, the former Cruiserweight Champ Kelvin Davis, but the American pulled out.
Manager Ahmet Oener: “We have big plans with Juan. Our goal is a title fight for him next year! ”Therefore Gomez, who lives in Los Angeles, trained hard to get back in the World class. And he wants to step back from his recent past: The 33-year old was tested positive on his last fight against Oliver McCall in October 2005. Gomez: “Before that everybody called me the ‘Black panther’. After that fight I was only the ‘Scandal Gomez’. I didn’t take cocaine, they took years away from my career, but Friday I will show everybody that I am back.” And Gomez has high goals: “I want to fight Wladimir Klitschko! That’s were the most money is for me.”
Change in the under card German Mahir„ Lion“ Oral (19-1-2) has to pull out for the WBC-International-Title Middleweight vs. Domenico Spada (ITA/21-0-0). Oral broke his right hand after the press conference when he was involved in a fighting. Now Mustafa Karagol (25), five time Turkish Champ and fighter of the Olympics in Athen 2004 face his chance of his life. The fighter who is trained by champion coach Fritz Sdunek won four of his eight victories by knockout (8-0-0). The winner has to defeat his title within 90 days against Oral. |
