Oscar vs. Floyd at MGM Las Vegas

Floyd Sr. To Work Oscar Corner According To Jr.

Written By William Trillo

Following up on a story Lauren Trillo wrote yesterday for Pound4Pound.com in which Floyd Mayweather Jr. told us exclusively that his father "absolutely" will be working Oscar's corner for their May 5, we contacted Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy CEO, who did not deny what Floyd Jr. said, saying "It's not official yet, I am not sure where Floyd is getting his information."

Along with telling us there are just too many variables to consider before an official announcement is made in regard to Floyd Sr., Schaefer also told Pound4Pound that the 100 million dollar figure Pretty Boy threw out there last night must be his idea of gross revenues, other than that the Golden Boy chief once again stated, “I do not know where Floyd is getting this information.”

When discussing ticket sales we told Schaefer that people are already contacting us asking when and where they can purchase tickets and Schaefer said the plight at Golden Boy Headquarters is crazy, “So many people are calling and asking how to get tickets, and truth be told we have already sold quite a few tickets already even though we only announced the site officially today!”  So, in light of all that, Schaefer informed us that it will be somewhere around mid-January before tickets are really available to the public. My best suggestion is to stay close to Pound4Pound and we will let you know as soon as the tickets are available.

Schaefer also told us “It will most likely be February when we take this out on the press tour and you can be sure this will be one of the largest press tours every for any event like this. There will be so much going on, commercials, photo shoots, press conferences. Certainly this will be one of the largest publicity tours ever seen for a sporting event like this.”

This fight doesn’t even officially have a title yet but Schaefer assured us that it is just one of the many things they are working on and from now on we can expect press releases and notifications surrounding everything that has to do with Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

On a lighter note in closing our conversation Richard remarked, “You know someone just told me there is only 137 more days left until Oscar vs. Floyd on May 5th of next year!” To which I replied, “Never mind how many shopping days there are left until Christmas, it’s all about how many days are left until the fight of the New Millennium.”
