Joshua Clottey took his record to 33-2 with a victory via unanimous decision against the too “slick” to fight enough to beat anyone significant south paw Shamone "The Truth" Alvarez whose deceiving record now stands at 19-1.

Clottey was never really troubled in this fight as Alvarez lacked any fire power or conviction in his punches. Clottey dominated from start to finish, picking his moments and smoothly working the ring.

The smoothy Alvarez and his team spent more time complaining to the ref than worrying about their opponent Clottey.

On the other side of the ring, Clottey patiently and precisely picked apart the so called “Truth” when he got close enough to engage, which was more than a difficult task as Alvarez had his motor in reverse for most of the night.

This fighting in retreat style has been the trademark for Alvarez and it may be enough to pull of wins in his hometown, but on the big stage it is dull, lifeless and boring and this time the judges called this one right and spared us from watching Shamone get an undeserved title shot.

Former Champion Kevin Kelley who was sitting ringside best summed up the night when before the judges scores were read he said, “You can’t win a fight with that pity pat crap!”

Agreed!

This was a title eliminator and Clottey puts himself in position for a showdown against IBF champ, Kermit Cintron, but don’t be surprised to see Clottey make a detour by facing Miguel Cotto next.

In the semi-main of the night, ‘Big Sky’ Tye Fields destroyed the dangerous Chris Koval with a devastating KO inside the first round. As Koval was pummeled with shots from all angles, he finally slumped against the ropes and onto the canvas. It was obvious from his facial expression that someone needed to call him a taxi. Fields takes his record to 39-1, with 35 KO’s and he must now be close to earning himself a title shot against one of the big timers of the heavyweight division.

Because of the quick stoppage in the Fields bout fans at home watching the Top Rank bout on the VERSUS network were treated to a couple more entertaining bouts.

Budding star Vanes Martirosyan, the Olympian super welterweight looked in tremendous condition and battered his opponent, Dan Wallace with some superb combinations. He scored a knockout timed at 1.34 of the first round. On this performance Martirosyan is one to watch and is an exciting prospect. He takes his record to 17-0 with 12 KO's.

Donnie Orr beat the tough Enrique Gallegos in an entertaining fight. Gallegos was in trouble within the first 30 seconds of the fight but he recovered to show just how hard he is with a brave performance against the impressive Orr. The judges scored the bout all in Orrs favor who takes his record to 11-0 with 4 KO's whilst the unlucky Gallegos falls to 6-3, with 1 KO.
