Golden Boy-HBO Conspiracy Theory:
Network Helping GBP Lock Up Euro Fighters

By William Trillo

Rumors are swirling that Golden Boy Promotions will promote the Calzaghe vs. Jones fight on the "QT" which lends to the theory that part of the incentive package GBP is working out with HBO is for a guaranteed fixed number of on air fights each year which probably will include a clause that allows them first shot at any fight in the USA involving Europeans who will be featured on the network. This would effectively kill off all other State side competitors who want a crack at any European star, for example, promoters like Art Pellulo who put on Ricky Hatton’s first two fights in this country then was given his walking papers.

Apparently there is a gentleman's agreement, (if not a signed piece of paper), between the network and the promoter that states Golden Boy's presence during this September fight will be non-existent, or at least way under the radar. Considering that the date in question, September 20th, was originally Oscar's date to take on Mayweather Jr. until Floyd "retired", it's easy to see how GBP got their hand$ into the Calzaghe vs. Jones affair.

Not to be missed in all this is the fact that Roy Jones was apparently not real thrilled with the HBO/GBP alliance, but when push came to shove...well you know the rest.

Lastly, don't be surprised to see GBP step in as Calzaghe's promoter of record once this fight is over and done with.

We’re betting there will be a lot of ticked off promoters if all this is true, and HBO nor GBP will give a damn because they are the real 800 pound gorilla in the room now. (Pun Intended)
