Hopkins Says, "Joe Throws Punches Like My Sister"
Why Won't Anyone Else?

I wonder if the 14,000 mostly Welsh Calzaghe fans in Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Arena knew that the words they were singing, "Super Super Joe, Super Super Joe, Super Super Joe, Super Joe Calzaghe", were being sung to the tune of the not so manly kiddie song, "Skip To My Lou, My Darling"? Whether they did or not, it seems to me the song would make a perfect bed for a highlight reel of Calzaghe as you could play it as a backdrop to clips of him slapping like someone's sister and turning his back every time he got hurt.

As the press filled the media room prior to Hopkins and Calzaghe post fight conference, most everyone agreed that the fight was close and could have gone either way and everyone also was in tune with their feelings about Calzaghe's performance. He hits like a girl and did no damage to Hopkins and his style is embarrassing for real boxing fans to watch.

It was then that I pointed and said, "Yeah we all agree, but none of you are going to write it!"

Looking at the headlines today, it looks like I hit the nail right on the head. Either the headlines were basic generic gutless ones like, Calzaghe Defeats Hopkins, or even worse they did a bigger shill job than even HBO, "Calzaghe "Super" Against Hopkins!" or "Hopkins beaten by "white boy".

Apparently when it came time to write down their true feelings the "Testicular Fortitude" of the press was nowhere to be found.

Speaking of testicles, how many times does a guy have to get blasted in the package before you will cut him some slack and allow him a minute or two to put things back in place? For those who were watching the fight on TV my understanding is that Max Kellerman was a total moron, and so was Jim Lampley by dwelling on the low blow. Look geniuses, because no point was deducted it had zero effect on the outcome of the fight. It was like HBO was trying to demean Bernard...again.  In a close fight a low blow point deduction is relevant, but not here. It was just HBO and mostly Kellerman trying to create controversy where none was warranted.
As to Joe's comments agreeing that the fight was ugly, yeah Joe it was, but don't try to place the blame on Hopkins shoulders alone. At least Bernard came in there to throw meaningful punches, like the one that put Calzaghe on his bum half way through the first round. Bernard was there to hurt his adversary, that's what fighting is all about. Calzaghe was there to prance around and sissy his way to a win.

Congratulations to the Welshman, that strategy earned him a split decision.

Imagine if he would have started pulling hair and scratching, the judges just may have given him a unanimous decision.

And had the fight been in Wales...well...you saw what happened to Peter Manfredo when "Super Joe" started slapping him on the back of his head....

As far as I am concerned, I am in full agreement with the judge who scored the fight in Hopkins favor. There is no way I can give a victory to a guy who does no harm whatsoever to his opponent.
At the end of the post fight press conference someone asked Bernard if he could give Calzaghe his just due respect for the victory.

To that question, Hopkins replied a firm "No!"

His explanation was that he felt he won the fight and his point was there was no way he could lose a fight to a guy who throws punches like his sister.
