Did Sergio Mora Just Earn A Ticket Into
The De La Hoya Sweepstakes?

By William Trillo

No sooner did "The Latin Snake" pull off the absolutely impossible when he beat 154 pound welterweight champ Vernon Forrest did he remind me of why I am not now or never will be a fan of the arrogant champ.

At the post fight press conference Mora said about the 154 division, “I will be honest that this is a horrible division and I am going back up to middleweight if there is nothing available. If I cannot make it exciting, it’s an awful division."

First of all thanks for reminding me why most of the media and all other fighters despise you Sergio, it has nothing to do with The Contender, you're just an ass. Which makes it even harder for me to present this very obvious probability;

There is one 154 pounder that may be a little more than exciting, his name is Oscar De La Hoya and the price tag to fight him should keep your pockets full of $$$ for all those late night poker games you spoke of.

Believe me, it pains me to say this but there are any number of variables that could make Golden Boy add Sergio as one of Oscar's final fights. There is the L.A. hometown angle and it's no secret Golden Boy has made a pact with The Contender (see Steve Forbes). But the number one reason Sergio may get the call is that Oscar wants to go out with victories, and unlike the ill prepared Forrest, there is no way Mora can beat Oscar...no way! And now that Mora owns the WBC 154 strap you got to think Oscar would like to retire with that belt wrapped around his waist. Combined with the large following of Myopic Contender fans, an HBO 24/7 would make this fight a pretty intriguing match up.

Man it pained me to write that, but it's been rolling around in my head and I had to get it out. It's not one of those, "remember where you heard it first" things, I'm just trying to clear the cobwebs and get a good nights sleep.

Golden Boy is set to announce Oscar's plan's in the not too distant future and it won't surprise me if Mora is on their wish list.

If Mora somehow does win the sweepstakes I hope someone gets to Jeff Wald and tells him to keep his boring speeches to under 60 seconds, he really can sap the life out of a press conference.

And speaking of Wald, at this weekends post fight press conference Wald stated, "Am I going to have a lot of fun tomorrow calling up some of the press and sticking it up their ass, the answer is yes.”

I am still waiting to hear from you Jeff, I would love to discuss that fight with you.
