IBF Gives Judah Undeserved Crack At 147 lb. Belt

By William Trillo

When Antonio Margarito vacated his IBF 147 pound belt to fight Cotto that opened the door for another Welterweight title fight and Joshua Clottey was first in line, and deservedly so for a chance to get the leather. His opponent chosen was Zab Judah who has no business getting a shot at any title right now, maybe ever.

Let's break this down, in his last 6 fights the underachiever Zab is 3-2 and N/C. He lost all 3 fights when he stepped up to the upper tier of boxing, Cotto, Mayweather & Baldomir. His 2 victories came over guys who are ranked by Boxrec as # 291, Ryan Davis & 147, Edwin Vazquez. In the no decision fight that was ruled a no contest due to an errant elbow to his foes head that caused a cut, the fighter Ruben Galvan is currently ranked # 526......very impressive!

Then we have the recent Shane Mosley fiasco that was called off because Zab claims to have fallen down in his shower and sliced up his arm on the broken shower door glass. That excuse has furrowed more than one eyebrow and at last count 100% of the people I have asked don't believe Judah's story about how he received those blade looking slashes...err...allegedly.

And for all this "hard work" Judah finds himself in another title fight.

This is nothing more than preposterous and the IBF should be ashamed of themselves.

The silver lining in the cloud here is that Joshua Clottey is a straight up excellent and strong fighter and the chances of him losing to Judah are nil. Clottey is at the top of his game right now and Zab is surely in for a major lesson.

That is of course unless Zab watches some recent film of Clottey and suddenly pulls out of the fight claiming a bunch of night sticks fell out of the sky and lumped his head up with numerous knots and contusions.

Otherwise Clottey will go through Zab like a hot knife goes through butter. (No pun intended)
