Floyd Sr. Training
Hatton
Leaves A Huge Question Mark:
Who Is Training
Oscar De La Hoya?
By William Trillo Photo Folly: Bret "The Threat" Newton
It is being reported that Ricky
Hatton will be trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr. for his
upcoming battle with Paulie Malignaggi on November 22nd.
According to the AP wire, The elder
Mayweather will fly to Manchester this month to oversee
training at Hatton's gym in Ashton...
Mayweather is also supposed to be
training Oscar De La Hoya for his bout against Manny
Pacquiao which takes place just 2 weeks after the Hatton
bout on December 6th. The word is that Oscar would be
doing his training in the California mountains in Big
Bear.
Logistically something isn't adding
up.
A quick shout out to Golden Boy CEO
Richard Schaefer gave no concrete answers and all he
would concede about the conflict is was that it was a
good point, but Schaefer stated he has had no
discussions with De La Hoya on the matter.
One Brit site posed a possible
solution to the conflict:
“It could mean Hatton
traveling to De La Hoya's Los Angeles base five weeks
ahead of the Malignaggi fight, and sharing a training
camp with De la Hoya.”
Somehow you have to feel that with
the great business & personal relationship between
Hatton and Golden Boy that someone knows more than they
are willing to reveal at the present time, but once the
press really starts doing the math Golden Boy or Oscar
are going to have to let us in on the secret.
Just thinking out loud, is it
conceivable that Oscar would employ another Mayweather,
say Roger or Jeff to fill their brothers shoes or does
De La Hoya have another trainer up his sleeve?
Maybe De La Hoya will just put his
foot down and tell Floyd Sr. he can't help Hatton at the
same time, much like he did with Freddie Roach when
Manny had a fight scheduled around the same time as
Oscar's battle with Floyd Jr.
Whatever it is my gut tells me that
all this is a little more calculated than it appears on
the surface and is a ploy to create some buzz around
Oscar vs. Manny, a fight that hasn't been too well
received by both experts and fans alike.
