Nations Set To Collide In
Quebec
Bute & Andrade Set To Take Center Stage
By William Trillo
Quebec City is one of
the oldest European settlements in North America and
it's where the Saint Lawrence River narrows that
boxing's best from around the world will converge on
Saturday night with World titles and national bragging
rights at stake.
At a brunch time press
conference on Wednesday IBF Champion Lucian Bute(24-0,19
KO's) and his challenger Librado Andrade (28-2,21 KO's)
met face to face for the first time since their
summertime press tour to talk about their rematch.
The Romanian Champion who now calls Montreal his home is
looking to prove his unanimous decision over Andrade was
not a mistake.
The Mexico born Andrade
who now hails from La Habra California wants to show his
knockdown of Bute in the 12th round was no fluke and
this time he aims to put him down for good.
Though the fighters were tame in their moments in front
of the media their trainers were a little sharper with
their tongues.
Howard Grant who trains
Andrade likened Bute to a Mercedes Benz that had been in
violent collision and though repaired would never be the
same.
In rebuttal Bute trainer
Stephane Larouche said that he would rather be a
repaired vehicle than one that has a second rate driver.
You can expect the verbal barbs to increase as the time
to the fight draws near.
In the semi main event
East London, South Africa's Ali Funeka (30-2-2,25 KO's)
will be taking on Joan Guzman (29-0,17 KO's) who calls
the Domincan Republic his home. The fighters will be
fighting for the vacant IBF 135 pound crown.
Guzman has a tall order
in front of him literally as the over 6 foot Funeka will
prove a tough test. Don't expect the undefeated Guzman
to back down from the challenge. This one also has the
makings of a war.
The teams from the 4
corners of the World came together in Canada this week
and although today's press conference was subdued you
can expect Saturday night to be anything but lacking in
intensity as 2 World title belts will be on the line and
up for grabs.
The Golden Boy and
Interbox card is already a sellout so the house will be
packed for an exciting night on Saturday. The HBO
televised card is a sure fire winner and is must see TV
for boxing fans around the globe.
Stay tuned for video of
today's press conference.
