Antonio Margarito's Appeal For
License Renewal DENIED: At
Least For Now!
By William Trillo
Pound4Pound just got off the phone with Nevada State
Athletic Commissioner Keith Kizer who informed us that by a
4 to 1 vote Antonio Margarito will not get a license in
Nevada for now. They did let Margarito know that once he
went to the State that he was suspended from for the illegal
hand wrap debacle, that being California, that they would
then allow Margarito to re-apply in Nevada and they would
look at his request again. Kizer said that regardless of
whether or not California gives Margarito his license back
he will get an opportunity to have his case heard in Nevada.
According to Kizer the main thing they wanted to see from
Margarito is to show some remorse, an act of contrition on
his part, then Nevada would feel better suited to move
forward.
Reports that Margarito would only get a license in Nevada is
if California lifted his suspension are wrong!
According to Kizer, Bob Arum was not particularly thrilled
with the outcome.
Arum expressed his feelings to the L.A. Times saying, “(I'm)
Pretty frustrated, They should've given an up or down vote
on it, not sent us back to California.”
According to Kizer Arum told him that he planned on showing
up to California's meeting next week to get the ball rolling
in that state for Margarito's re-application.
The California commission is meeting next on July 26 should
Margarito opt to appear, a state official said.
Along with Arum, Margarito was in attendance at the meeting
with his wife Michelle, Top Rank's Todd Duboeuf and their
lawyer.
