You couldn't have
written this story any better as hometown hero's Librado
Andrade & Enrique Ornelas fought in their hometown and
delivered crowd pleasing victories in a full house in
Leon, Mexico.
In the main event Andrade (29-4,22 KO's) took on Matt
O'Brien (18-2, 7 KO's) for the vacant WBC Super
Middleweight Intercontinental belt. Showing no signs of
discouragement after his recent loss Andrade jumped all
over O'Brien from the onset. Looking like the Andrade
the fans have come to know and love, the tough warrior
from Jesus Del Monte had no problem getting into a give
and take battle with the tough Canadian.
The crowd roared as
Andrade landed vicious blows and cheered just as loud
when he was hit with crisp shots only to return with yet
another barrage of his own.
It didn't take long and by round three Andrade had
broken down O'Brien and it wasn't long before he sent
him to the canvas twice. After the second knockdown
O'Brien's corner wisely waved the surrender flag and the
ref halted the action at the 2:20 mark of round three.
The full house roared with excitement and this was
clearly a very sweet victory for Andrade who not only
captures a belt but keeps himself in the picture for
another shot at a world title.
In the semi-main event
Enrique Ornelas (31-7, 20 KO's) faced Alfredo Contreras
(11-11-2, 5 KO's) in a 10 round light heavyweight bout
that was a crowd pleasing toe to toe war.
Ornelas kept the upper hand in almost every round but
the tough Contreras would not go down and was willing to
take everything Ornelas had to offer.
The fight went the 10
round distance and Ornelas took the victory with scores
of 100-89,100-89 & 99-90. With the victory Ornelas will
keep himself high in the rankings and another big fight
is sure to ahead of him.
The opening bouts of the night went down this way:
Featherweight Robert
Manzanarez decisioned Edgar Martinez over 6.
Middleweight Juan Sergio
Torres Perez KO'd Salvador Ramirez in 4.
Bantamweight Luis Oliva
& Ricardo Ruiz fought to a 4 round draw.
