Magee Angry
St-Juste "Sick"
By Daniel Cloutier
On Wednesday Montreal saw the final press conference for the
fight between IBF Super Middle Champ Lucian Bute and Brian
Magee that will take place at The Bell Center on Saturday
night and be televised by Showtime.
To put it bluntly, Magee is not happy to know that Mikkel
Kessler will be in Montréal Saturday."It is a lack of
respect for me, he said. InterBox president, Jean Bédard, is
already talking of a fight between Bute and Kessler for next
fall, just a few days before my fight with Lucian. I guess
that for InterBox, a win, for Bute, is just a formality. My
plan is to make them pay for that. I never under estimated
an opponent, and I will never accept to be under estimated.
I am a warrior, and you will see what I mean Saturday. I
don’t care if the bookies in Las Vegas are putting Bute a
favorite by 15 to 1. I was the underdog last year when I
went in Danemark to fight Mads Larsen in a European
championship. Nobody over there gave me a chance to beat
Larsen. I knocked him out in less than seven rounds. It is
my first world championship fight, and I will give
everything I got to win".
Renan St-Juste, who is ranked 4th by the WBO in the super
middleweight division, is supposed to fight the Colombian
Alejandro Berrio Saturday night, but the rumors are that the
fight will be canceled before the weigh in. (Those reports
were confirmed on Thursday night) St-Juste is saying that he
has a laryngitis, and he feels weak, but the real reason,
apparently, is that he is the candidate to fight Kessler in
June in Copenhagen. Kessler mentioned to European boxing
writers that he will make his come back in June in
Copenhagen, and will fight Bute next fall.
