Chavez Jr. Unanimously Passes
Rubio;
Wants Martinez Next

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
(now 45-0-1, 31 KO's) retained the WBC Middleweight
Title with a 12 rounds unanimous decision. The entire
fight was fought at close quarters, both men locked
forehead to forehead, with Chavez being the busier and
more aggressive of the two. Although, gaining over
twenty pounds after the weigh-in gave him the apparent
physical advantage. Rubio simply just did not do enough
to win many rounds. Rounds 1 through 10 were nearly
identical.
In round 11, however, Rubio staggered Chavez and the two
began to trade in an all out war. Chavez was hurt, but
his immediate intentions were to fight on and hurt Rubio
back. Definitely the best round of the fight.
The two again traded in the final round, with Chavez
appearing to close the show. Final scores were 118-110,
116-112 and 115-113. Rubio falls to 53-6-1 with 47 KO's.
After the fight, Chavez
said he would be ready for Sergio Martinez for his next
fight. That will remain to be seen as Chavez was
practically fighting at Cruiserweight tonight.
