Cloutier's
Canada Corner
Howard Grant: "Stevenson? No, No and No!"
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - The Montreal trainer Howard Grant is
categoric: never again will he be in the corner
of Adonis Stevenson, never again will he trained
him... and he never wants to see the face of
Adonis in his gym again. Grant is really
furious.
In December, Stevenson decided to leave Grant’s
gym, to join the Kronk Gym in Detroit, to work
with the legendary trainer Emmanuel Steward. A
few days ago, Stevenson went to meet Howard and
Otis Grant, to ask them to work with Emmanuel
Steward in his corner February 18th, at Bell
Centre Theater, where Adonis will fight the
American Jesus Gonzales (27-1-0) in an IBF super
middleweight elimination bout, for the # 2 spot. |

"Adonis just betrayed us
for the second time, and believe me, it was the last
time, said Howard. "We are not interested to be in his
corner February 18th. No, no and no! We will never train
him again, and I don’t want to see his face in my gym
ever again. Adonis left my gym in 2010, to train in
U.S.A., the result was that he lost by KO in less than
two rounds against Darnell Boone in Maryland. He begged
us to come back to our gym few months ago, when he
signed a new contract with the GYM Group We took him.
Look at the results? He just betrayed us again. Without
warning, he left Montréal and our gym to go in Detroit
to work with Emmanuel Steward. Enough is enough. I am
wishing him good luck, but we will never give him
another chance to insult us again."
Stevenson (16-1-0) said, "I did not want to insult the
Grant’s brothers. I went at the Kronk Gym to get solid
sparring partners. I could not get it at the Grant’s
gym. As you know, I am living the most crucial moments
of my career, I am closer then ever to a IBF world
championship’s fight, then, I got to put all the chances
on my side. The winner of this elimination bout will get
the spot number two in the IBF rankings. I want to
become the IBF world champion this year or next year, I
will need to have perfect preparation each time I get in
the ring."
