IBF Elimination Bout For Beterbiev & Barrera

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev will face the Cuban Sullivan Barrera, in an IBF light heavyweight elimination bout, but the date and the site of the fight are not determined. The IBF championship committee will hold a purse bid February 2nd in New Jersey, if the promoters of the two fighters cannot make a deal before.

Beterbiev (11-0-0) is ranked fourth contender by the WBC in the 175 pounds division, third by the WBA, second by the IBF and third by the WBO. Sullivan (18-1-0) is ranked seventh contender by the IBF.

The bout could happen in April in Montréal, Québec City or USA. “Artur really hopes to face the WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion of the world, the Californian Andre Ward, then, he will be extremely motivated and hungry when he will face Barrera, said Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group, the man who recruited Beterbiev for the organization. Artur knows he has all the weapons necessaries to become world champion, a goal he wants to reach this year. At his last bout, against the Argentinian Isidro Ranoni Prieto, December 23rd at the Lac Leamy Casino, Artur proved again he has an exceptional talent.” Beterbiev won by TKO in the first round against Prieto.
