Will Fight In New York Dec. 15

MONTRÉAL — Three Montrealers boxers will be involved in this
boxing show presented by the Golden Boy Promotions
organization December 15th at Madison Square Garden in New
York. Before the main event, this WBA and WBC middleweight
championship of the world opposing the Mexican Saul Canelo
Alvarez (50-1-2) to the British Rocky Fielding (27-1-0), the
Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev (13-0-0) will defend his
IBF light heavyweight championship of the world against the
New Yorker Joe Smith Jr. (24-2-0).
October 6th in Chicago, Beterbiev proceed to the first
defence of his world title. He won by TKO in the fourth
round against the British Callum Johnson, who suffered of
his first defeat in pro boxing (17-1-0).
“Smith is strong physically and he is solid puncher,” said
Beterbiev. “I will fight with a perfect concentration from
the first second to last second of the bout.”
Beterbiev knows he got to stay undefeated to get a chance to
face the winner of the rematch between the Montrealer
Colombian Eleider Alvarez (24-0-0) and the Russian Sergey
Kovalev (32-2-1), a bout which should be presented February
2nd in Dallas, Texas.
“Yes, I really hope to fight the winner of this rematch
Alvarez-Kovalev, to unify the IBF and WBO light heavyweight
championships of the world,” said Beterbiev. “I know that a
fight between Alvarez and me or Kovalev and me, would create
a huge interest on the international boxing scene.”
Before the fight Beterbiev-Smith, the former IBF
middleweight champion of the world, the Montrealer David
Lemieux (40-4-0) will face Tureano Johnson (24-2-0), from
Lemieux is ranked third contender by the WBC in the 160
pounds division, and seventh by the IBF.
A third Montrealer, the super lightweight Yves Ulysse Jr.
(16-1-0), will be involved in one of the preliminaries bouts
of the evening, but he still wait the identity of his
