  Canelo Crumbles Rocky In 3

By William Trillo

With 20,112 seats filled in the historical Madison Square Garden arena, Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) came out and bludgeoned Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for just over 8 minutes 30 seconds before the referee brought a grinding halt to the proceedings after Rocky hit the canvas for the fourth time.

Fielding proved to be no match for Canelo on any level. With no outside game to speak of the Liverpudlian had no choice but to fight in close quarters. That suited Canelo just fine. It wouldnt take long for a hook to the body to start the knockdown parade. Canelo was just too much for Fielding to handle.

Credit to Fielding for getting up time and time again after crushing blows, but truth be told, champion or not Fielding had no business being in the same ring with Canelo, it was a mismatch of epic proportions.

With the victory Canelo snagged the WBA Super Middleweight belt adding another division of championship leather to his ever growing collection. To call the victory impressive would be a stretch. Canelo did what he had to do in New York, and that was to defeat a foe who had zero chance of coming out on top.

Super featherweight Tevin Farmer (28-4-1, 6 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Francisco Fonseca (22-2-1, 16 KOs) to retain his International Boxing Federation World Super Featherweight Title. Final scores read 117-111 x 3 all in favor of Farmer. After the fight Farmer said, It was a good performance. He was really really tough. And after a few rounds, we saw that and we started working on things. Its all a road to improve. I say it was a C+, B- performance.

Lightweight Katie Taylor (12-0, 5 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Eva Wahlstrom (22-1-1, 3 KOs) to retain her International Boxing Federation World Female Lightweight and Title World Boxing Association World Female Lightweight Title. In the postfight interview Taylor stated, The goal is to be the undisputed lightweight champion of the world. Obviously one of the biggest fighters out there is Amanda Serrano, and thats a huge, huge fight.

Welterweight Sadam Ali (27-2, 14 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Mauricio Herrera (24-8, 7 KOs). After the fight Ali said, Honestly, I didnt look good in there. I felt like I won sloppy. Herrera made me look terrible in there. Hes a rugged fighter. And I fell in there that last moment of the fight the same way I fell when I fought Miguel Cotto. I felt like the cards were a lot closer than what the judges said they were.

Lightweight Ryan Garcia (17-0, 14 KOs) KOd Braulio Rodriguez (19-4, 17 KOs). A jubilant Garcia announced, Next year, Im going to just keep getting better. I used to think I could conquer the world. But now I know its a process.

Super featherweight Lamont Roach (18-0-1, 7 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Alberto Mercado (15-2-1, 3 KOs) to earn the World Boxing Organization International Super Featherweight Title. After the fight Roach stated I controlled most of the fight, and felt like I hurt him in almost every round. I am proud of the fight that I had tonight most fighters dont take the type of fights I say yes to. Ill do what it takes to make it to the top and that means fighting skilled fighters.

Super middleweight Bilal Akkawy (19-0-1, 15 KOs) TKOd Victor Fonseca (17-9-1, 14 KOs). On his victory Akkawy stated, There is a lot of room for improvement. I wasnt myself in there, but Ill be working on that when I get back to the gym. Its an honor to have fought here [Madison Square Garden]. The plan now is to enjoy the holiday and then head to Mexico so I can get ready for my next fight.

Super lightweight Yves Ulysse Jr (17-1, 9 KOs) took a unanimous decision over Maximilliano Becerra (16-3-2, 8 KOs). On his victory Ulysse noted, It was truly a dream coming true to fight at the Madison Square Garden. All the best fighters have fought here and the atmosphere is really unique. I felt like home in the ring. Im happy about my performance: Ive stick to the game plan, was patient to get the openings and hurt him."
