Lemieux vs. O’Sullivan Possible For Las Vegas
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL -The Montrealer middleweight David Lemieux could
fight the Irish Gary O’Sullivan September 15th at the
T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, just before the presentation of
the main event, this WBC and WBA middleweight world
championship bout opposing Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1), from
Kazakhstan, and Saul Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2), from Mexico.
Last December at Place Bell in Laval, a Montréal northern
suburb, O’Sullivan (28-2-0) beat Antoine Douglas (22-2-1),
from Burke, Virginia State, by TKO in the seventh round. The
same night, just after the fight O’Sullivan-Douglas, Lemieux
(39-4-0) lost by unanimous decision against the WBO
middleweight champion of the world, the British Billy Joe
Apparently, the promoter of Golden Boy Promotions, the
former world champion Oscar De La Hoya, is in negotiation
with the Montrealer promoter Camille Estephan to finalize a
deal for a fight Lemieux-O’Sullivan.
De La Hoya is Lemieux’s promoter, Estephan is the manager.
Recently, Lemieux mentioned that De La Hoya was very
interested to have him on the September 15th boxing show,
and the Montrealer fighter said he was extremely interested
to fight on this prestigious boxing show.
