The Gym Group Reveals All Fighters
Involved In June 29th Boxing Show

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL — The promoter of the GYM Group, Yvon Michel, revealed the names of the fighters who will be involved in the preliminaries bouts of this June 29th boxing show presented at the Bell Place in Laval, a Montréal northern suburb.

The main event will opposed the Montrealers Jean Pascal and Steve Bossé. Former WBC light heavyweight (175 pounds) champion of the world, Pascal (32-5-1) will move up in the cruiserweight division (190 pounds) to fight Bossé (1-0-0), a former UFC champion who has only one pro boxing fight of experience. Pascal announced his retirement last December after his win by TKO against the Egyptian Ahmed Elbiali (17-1-0) in Miami, but few weeks ago, Bossé challenged publicly Pascal. Few days after, Pascal called Yvon Michel to tell him he was ready to get out of his retirement to face Bossé.

Just before the main event, Francis Lafrenière (16-6-2), a middleweight from the Montréal West Island (Côteau-du-Lac), will get a rematch with Albert Onolunose (23-1-1), a Nigerian living in Calgary, Alberta. Last March in Montréal, Onolunose beat Lafrenière by majority decision of the judges. Lafrenière, who is trained by the brothers Howard and Otis Grant at the Monster Gym in Dorval, in the West Island of Montréal, wanted absolutely to get a rematch… and he will finally got it.

Like in March, Lafrenière and Onolunose will fight in a NABO 160 pounds North American championship.

The boxers involved in the preliminaries fights will be: the Montrealer Romanian super middleweight Bruno Bredicean (11-0-0), the middleweight Jordan Balmir (9-0-0), from Drummondville, Québec, the cruiserweight Yan Pellerin (2-0-0), from Granby, Québec, the middleweight Michael Cyr (1-0-0), also from Drummondville, the Montrealer lightweight Roody Pierre-Paul (16-3-2) and the Montrealer lightweight Whitney Baillé (6-0-0).

Bredicean will face the Mexican Nestor Fernando Garcia (22-15-1), Balmir will fight the French Mehdi Madani (15-8-1), Pellerin will challenge Marcus Hicks (0-1-0), from Edmonton, Alberta, Cyr will be opposed to Jean-Michel Bolivar (3-1-0), from Pointe-Calumet, Québec, Pierre-Paul will face the Romanian Oszkar Fiko (31-25-1) and finally, Baillé will challenge the Mexican Victor Hugo Lorenzo (9-3-0).

“We will have several interesting bouts June 29th,” said Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group. “I am specially impatient to see the fights Pascal-Bossé and Lafrenière-Onolunose. These two fights are promising good action, and the boxing fans in Montréal are split on their prediction for the last bouts of the evening.”
