Oscar Rivas: "I Usually Win By KO
Against Aggressive Boxers"

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Colombian Oscar Rivas is closer than ever to reach the Top 10 of the WBC ratings. Ranked 12th contender by the WBC in the heavyweight division, Rivas will try to improve his pro record to 23-0-0 Thursday evening in the ring of the Montréal Casino, in fighting the Mexican Sergio Martinez (16-5-0) in the main event (eight rounds) of a boxing show presented by the GYM Group in Montréal.

Rivas will try to obtained his 17th win by KO or TKO. “I need to stay undefeated, because I really want to fight for a world title before the end of the year or next year,” said Rivas at the weight in held Wednesday afternoon at the Montréal Casino. “I know I am very close to get my place in the Top 10 or the WBC ratings. Martinez? He has a good reputation, he is an aggressive fighter, and I like the situation. When I face an aggressive boxer, I usually win by KO or TKO. I got a great training camp, and no doubt in my mind, I will be in the winning corner Thursday evening.”

Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group, is expecting a spectacular fight. “Rivas is right, Martinez is an aggressive fighter,” said Barré. “He loves to connected solid body punches with his left hook. However, his defence is so and so, then, I think that Oscar Rivas gonna win before the end of the fifth round. Oscar is certainly one of the best heavyweight in the world, and he will prove it again in few hours.”

Marc Ramsay, the Riva’s trainer, said: “I don’t want to predict a win by KO, but I am sure that Oscar has the technique to dominate round after round. For sure, if he sees an opportunity to score a KO or a TKO, Oscar will take it, but the most important thing for him, is to stay undefeated.”

The referee of the main event will be the Montrealer Albert Padulo. The judges will be all Montrealers, Richard Blouin, Nicolas Esnault and Marie-Josée Guérin.

At the weigh in, Rivas posted an official weight of 236.4 pounds. Martinez, who will arrive in Montréal Wednesday evening, because a flight cancel from Mexico City, will go on the scale Thursday morning at the office of the Régie des Sports de combat (Québec Athletic Commission].

The preliminaries bouts will involved the Montrealer light heavyweight Shakeel Phinn (16-2-0), the Montrealer African middleweight Christian M’Billi (10-0-0), the Montrealer super middleweight Louisbert Altidor (7-2-0), the cruiserweight Yan Pellerin (1-0-0), from Granby, Québec, and the Montrealer light heavyweight Terry Osias (2-0-0).

Phinn will face the Poland champion Bartlomiej Grafka (20-29-3), M’Billi will fight the Argentinian Luis Eduardo Paz (6-4-1), Altidor will be opposed to the Mexican Guillermo Romero (12-5-0), Pellerin will challenge the Mexican Jesus Beltran (1-1-0), and Osias will meet the Mexican Josele Napoles (6-7-0).

At the weight in, Phinn posted an official weight of 169.4 pounds, Grafka 170, M’Billi 163.4, Paz 163.4, Altidor 166.8, Romero 166, Pellerin 190, Beltran 189.8, Osias 184 and finally, Napoles 187 pounds.
