Billy Joe Saunders Spits On
Lemieux & The Montrealers
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - The WBO middleweight champion of the world, the
British Billy Joe Saunders, has certainly had his last fight
on the Montréal territory. Saunders is spitting of the
former IBF middleweight champion of the world, David
Lemieux, and the Montrealers.
December 16th at Place Bell in Laval, a northern Montréal
suburb, Saunders (26-0-0) kept is WBO 160 pounds world title
in beating Lemieux (38-4-0) by unanimous decision. Two days
after the bout, Lemieux met the Montrealers boxing writers,
to explain that he could not use his left arm after the
first round. For the second time in a row, he injured his
left shoulder in the first round.
A doctor believes that Lemieux will need a surgery to cure a
ligament’s problem in his left shoulder.
Saunders mentioned to a British boxing writer: “Lemieux is
an asshole,” said Saunders. “He found a good excuse to
discredit my win and domination over him in this fight. And
I hate the Montrealers. Several of them booed me and
insulted me the night of the fight and the days before the
event. I hope I will never return to Montréal.”
Saunders’s attitude is pretty curious. Different surveys are
showing that a majority of Americans love to come in
Montréal, and they feel very welcome in the most important
French City in America.
