Stevenson & Jack Both Agree To Rematch

By Daniel Cloutier

TORONTO - The Montrealer southpaw Adonis Stevenson and the Swedish African Badou Jack are both in agreement for a rematch. Saturday evening in the ring of the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Stevenson (29-1-1) kept his WBC light heavyweight championship, because the verdict of the bout was a majority draw.

After this intense and violent bout, two judges scored the bout 114-114, and the third judge scored the bout 115-113 in favor of Badou Jack (21-2-2). When the verdict is a majority draw (decision of two of the three judges), the boxer who showed up in the ring with his world title, keeps his crown.

I was certainly deserving the win, because I was the aggressor in most of the rounds, but we got to accept the verdict of the judges, said Stevenson. In the circumstances, a rematch would be logical. If Badou Jack agrees, and apparently, he is, I hope that Yvon Michel and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will negotiate this rematch.

Yvon Michel is the promoter of the GYM Group, the organization which has Stevenson on contract, and Floyd Mayweather Jr., the famous former champion of the world, is the Badou Jacks promoter.

Yes, I totally agree, a rematch would be logical in this situation, said Badou Jack. I believe I was deserving the win. If Stevenson did well in the first four rounds, I certainly dominated the action in the second half of the bout. I was more energetic then Stevenson in the last six rounds (12 rounds bout). And if the GYM Group and my promoter are finalizing a deal for this rematch, I hope this rematch will be presented in Europe. I came in Canada to fight Stevenson, its his turn to fight on my territory. I will certainly discuss about it with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Former super featherweight (130 pounds), lightweight (135 pounds) , super lightweight (140 pounds), welterweight (147 pounds) and super welterweight (154 pounds) champion of the world, Mayweather Jr. (50-0-0) will probably start negotiations with Yvon Michel for the organization of a rematch Stevenson-Jack.

It was a fantastic bout, and I am sure that a rematch would be so spectacular. said Mayweather Jr. And I really believe that this rematch is a must. I think that Badou Jack was deserving the win, he was deserving to leave the ring with the WBC belt in his hand, then, he is deserving plenty a rematch.

In this fight, each fighter attacked furiously, and each one looked seriously in trouble at certain moments.

Stevenson mentioned to a boxing writer: I got only three weeks of preparation for this match up with Badou Jack, its why I got a lack of energies in the last round, but trust me, I will be perfectly prepared when this rematch will be confirmed. I know I have the weapons to beat this guy by KO or TKO, then, watch me in the rematch.
