Volny & Jean Victorious In Cornwall

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL — The Montrealer middleweight Patrice Volny dethroned Albert Onolunose as NABO 160 pounds North American champion Saturday evening at the Civic Complexe in Cornwall, Ontario, in beating him by unanimous decision in 10 rounds.

A fighter of 28 years, Volny, who has a perfect record in pro boxing (12-0-0), should see his name appears in the Top 15 or the Top 10 of the WBO ratings in the weeks to come.

A Nigerian of 37 years old living in Calgary, Alberta, Onolunose (23-2-1) won this NABO title last March at the Montréal Casino, in beating Francis Lafrenière, from the West Island of Montréal, by majority decision of the judges.

Just before the fight Volny-Onolunose, the Montrealer lightweight Dierry Jean improved his pro record to (30-2-1), with a victory by TKO in the sixth round over the Mexican Abraham Gomez (28-17-1).

For Jean, it was a first presence in the ring in two years. Why? Jean spent 15 months in jail for a severe aggression against a lady in Montréal.
