MONTRÉAL - The promoter of the GYM Group, the Montrealer Yvon Michel, confirmed that the Montrealer female Marie-Eve Dicaire will proceed to the first defense of her world title March 23rd at the Montréal Casino.

Dicaire (14-0-0) will defend her IBF super welterweight (154 pounds) world championship against the Dominican Lena Tejada (12-5-0).

Dicaire became IBF world champion last December at the Videotron Centre in Québec City, in beating Chris Namus (24-5-0), from Uruguay, by unanimous decision.

“I am extremely proud to defend my word title for the first time, and specially by the fact it will be at the Montréal Casino, the place where I disputed my first pro bout,” said Dicaire Tuesday afternoon. “I will be perfectly prepared for this challenge, mentally, physically, technically and strategically. I fought very well against Namus last December, and I really believe I will even better against Tejada.”

Tejada replied: “I lost three of my last five bouts, but trust me, I will fight with intensity and and concentration March 23rd, and I am determinate to leave Montréal with the IBF crown in my luggage. Dicaire is a good fighter, but I am persuaded I have the weapons to beat her.”

Stéphane Harnois, the Dicaire’s trainer, said: “Marie-Eve realized a dream in becoming world champion, but trust me, she wants to stay world champion and I am persuaded she will achieve it. Marie-Eve is so determinate to get a fantastic boxing career.”

Yvon Michel will confirm soon the identity of the fighters who will take part to the preliminaries bouts.
