Mikey Garcia Gets DiSpenced By Errol
By William Trillo
Errol Spence Jr. (25-0, 21 KO’s) had little or no trouble at
all with Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30 KO’s) as he retained his IBF
Welterweight title with a complete shutout performance. The
fight was not close, the fight was not intriguing, the fight
was not suspenseful.
When this fight was first announced almost everyone to a man
said that Mikey had bitten off way more than he could chew
with this challenge.
They were right.
After a short feeling out process in the early stages of the
fight Spence realized Garcia had no chance of hurting him.
With that Spence went on an aggressive combination punching
throwing tear for almost every single round from about round
4 onward. Mikey had nothing of consequence in his arsenal to
deter Spence and without any significant ammunition Garcia
Before round 10 Garcia’s trainer and brother Robert told
Mikey he was going to stop the fight if the onslaught
ensued, but Mikey convinced his brother to allow him to go
on. To Mikey’s credit he did go the distance. It was a moral
victory at best.
Spence looked sharp with his performance although it what
was expected all along.
Final scores all in favor of Spence 120-107 and 120-108
