Yvon Michel: "Kovalev vs. Alvarez Rematch Will Go On In Spite Of The Accusations Against Kovalev"

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The promoter of the GYM Group, Yvon Michel, talked to Kathy Duva, the promoter of Main Event, and the rematch between the Montrealer Colombian Eleider Alvarez and the Russian Sergey Kovalev will be presented February 2nd at the Frisco Ford Centre in Texas in spite of the accusations against Kovalev.

In New York, a lady called the police, alleging that Kovalev attacked her few days ago, and she said he punched her in the face. This lady accused Kovalev of assault.

“I talked to Kathy Duva, the Kovalev’s promoter, and she said that Sergey is denying these accusations, then, the rematch between him and Eleider Alvarez will go on as expected,” said Yvon Michel. “The two fighters are training every days to be perfectly prepared for this rematch.”

Alvarez (24-0-0) dethroned Kovalev (32-3-1) as WBO light heavyweight champion of the world August 4th at the Atlantic City Hard Rock hotel-casino, with a victory by KO in the seventh round. A rematch clause was included in the contract of the two fighters.
