Lafrenière Knows What To Do
To Beat Orlando Vazquez

SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, Québec, Canada - The middleweight Francis Lafrenière, from Côteau-du-Lac in the West Island of Montréal, will be involved in the main event of the boxing show presented by the promoter Yvon Michel, from the GYM Group, Saturday evening at the Isabelle-Brasseur Arena in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, a Montréal suburb on the south side. Lafrenière (17-7-2) will face the Mexican Orlando Vazquez (10-5-0) in an eight rounds bout.

“I saw Vazquez in action a couple of times on videos, then, I know what I have to do to win the fight,” said Lafrenière Friday afternoon at the weigh in held at the Dooly’s Bar in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. “Vazquez is pretty good offensively and defensively, but I really think that I have the speed and the technique to dominate the action.”

When we asked him what is his goal for the years to come, Lafrenière smiled. “My goal ? Stay in good health and in a perfect physical condition, said Lafrenière. We will see what I will achieve this year and next year.” Lafrenière is 32 years old.

Lafrenière was trained by Howard and Otis Grant at the Monster GYM in the West Island of Montréal for the last nine years, but know, his trainer his Stéphane Larouche.

Larouche said: “Francis is extremely determinate, he works extremely hard in training, he is very motivate fight after fight, then, we can expect a solid performance from his part in few hours. And Francis is strong physically and he has a solid jaw. I really believe you will see him in action against fighters ranked in the world in the years to come.”

At the weigh in supervised by the Québec Athletic Commission (Régie provinciale des sports de combat), Lafrenière posted an official weight of 161.4 pounds, versus 163.2 for Vazquez.

The super middleweight Jean-Michel Bolivar (6-2-0), from Pointe-Calumet, Québec, the Montrealer middleweight Francesco Cotroni (12-10-1), the Montrealer super middleweight Manuel Garcia (16-15-2), the super lightweight Louis Jourdain, from the Montréal South Shore, the cruiserweight Yan Pellerin (6-1-0), from East suburb of Montréal, and the Montrealer middleweight Kevin Menoche (2-0-0) will be involved in the preliminaries bouts of the evening.

Bolivar will fight the Montrealer Jan Michael Poulin (5-1-2), Cotroni will face the Mexican Luis Enrique Montelongo (9-7-0), Garcia will challenge the African Mponda Kalunga (4-2-0), who is living in Toronto, Jourdain will be opposed to the Mexican Tomas Rentaria (2-2-1), Pellerin will fight the Mexican Juan Santiago Colchado (6-4-1), and Menoche will face the Mexican Marco Antonio Cruz Gonzalez (2-1-1).

At the weigh in, Bolivar posted an official weight of 164.4 pounds, Poulin 161.8, Cotroni 159, Montelongo 159, Jourdain 1387.8, Renteria 138.6, Pellerin 188.8, Colchado 189, Menoche 163.4 and finally, Gonzalez 161.8 pounds.

This boxing show is presented by the promoter Yvon Michel, the big boss of the GYM Group in Montréal.
