Butler Will Face Macias In Mexico
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL, Canada - The Montrealer middleweight Steven Butler
will have his next bout January 30th in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Butler (28-2-1) will fight the Mexican Jose de Jesus Macias
(27-10-3) in a NABF middleweight (160 pounds) North American
championship.
“Steven was supposed to face Francis Lafrenière, from Coteau-du-Lac
in the West Island of Montréal, but Lafrenière has finally
decided to cancel this fight,” said the promoter of The Eye
Of The Tiger Management Group in Montréal, Camille Estephan,
“Then, I finalized a deal to organize a middleweight North
American championship between Steven and Jose de Jesus
Macias in Mexico. It will be a great fight, Butler and
Macias are both tough fighters, aggressive and intense.”
According some rumors, Lafrenière has decided to take his
retirement.
Just before the fight Butler-Macias, the Montrealer Russian
super middleweight (168 pounds) Saddriddin Akhmudov (11-0-0)
will have the most important bout of his pro boxing career.
He will face Stephen Danyo (17-3-3), from Rotterdam,
Netherland, in a WBA Continental championship.
“Akhmudov is a very aggressive, intense and talented
fighter, and I really believe that he will get a fascinating
career on the international boxing scene,” said Estephan.
“He is certainly ready for this challenge.”
In the opening bout of the evening, the female featherweight
(126 pounds) Leila Beaudoin, from Québec City, will be in
action, but The Eye Of The Tiger Management Group should
confirm her rival in the next two weeks.
