Lemieux Won’t Fight In Rimouski

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The former IBF middleweight champion of the world, the Montrealer David Lemieux (41-4-0), will be unable to face the Polish Robert Talarek (24-13-3) February 21st at the Rimouski Arena. Lemieux injured his back few days ago, slipping on an icy sidewalk in Montréal.

“David tried to train in the last days, but it was obvious that he was uncomfortable in the ring,” said the Lemieux’s trainer, Marc Ramsay. “David will fight when he will feels in perfect health. I guess that he will be able to fight in March or April. I mentioned to the the promoter Camille Estephan to cancel his fight with Talarek.”

But The Eye Of The Tiger Management Group will still present a boxing show February 21st at the Rimouski Arena.

In the main event, the heavyweight Simon Kean (18-1-0), from Trois-Rivières, Québec, will fight Daniel Martz (19-8-1), from Clertksburg, West Virginia, and just before the main event, the Montrealer Erik Bazinyan (24-0-0), who is ranked fourth contender by the WBO in the super middleweight division (168 pounds), will fight Timo Laine (27-12-1), from Finland.
