Yvon Michel: "We Will Be Very
Active Before The End Of The Year"

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The promoter of the GYM Group, the Montrealer Yvon Michel, confirmed that his organization will be very active before the end of the year. “We will organize five boxing shows at the Montréal Casino before the end of the year, and we are working to organize a WBO light heavyweight elimination bout between our fighter Elder Alvarez, and the Mexican Gilberto Ramirez,” said Yvon Michel Wednesday afternoon in a press conference held at the Montréal Casino. “The WBO will hold a purse bid for this crucial fight in March. And we are working with Top Rank Inc. to organize an important boxing show March 28th at the Videotron Centre in Québec City. On that show, the Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev will defend his two world championships (WBC and IBF) against the Chinese Fanlon Meng. No doubt in my mind, this year will be great one for our organization.” Beterbiev has a pro record of 15-0-0, Meng 16-0-0.

The five boxing shows presented at the Montréal Casino will be March 21st, May 2nd, June 6th, October 24th and December 12th. “March 21st, it will be our 67th boxing show at the Montréal Casino,” said Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group. “I hope that this event will be a memorable one."

In the main event, March 21st, the Montrealer female Kim Clavel (11-0-0), who is NABF flyweight North American champion, will face a former world champion, the Mexican Esmeralda Moreno (35-12-2).

“Clavel has a great talent, she is excellent technically, she is intense, but it will be a big challenge for her March 21st,” said Yvon Michel, “Moreno has a solid experience, she will fight in Montréal her 50th pro bout, and she won world championships bouts in 2012, 2013 and 2017.”

The Montrealer light heavyweight (175 pounds) Terry Osias (9-0-0), the Montrealer female welterweight (147 pounds) Marie-Pier Houle (2-0-1), the Montrealer super lightweight (140 pounds) Mazlum Akdenis (11-0-0), the lightweight heavyweight Kare Heron (16-0-1), from Etobicoke, Ontario, the light heavyweight Simon Pierre Adde (7-1-0), from Los Angeles, the Montrealer super lightweight Abed-Almothy El-Safadi (3-0-0) and the Montrealer middleweight Dizon Belfon (2-0-0) will be involved in the preliminaries bouts.

Osias will fight the Bolivian champion Javier Saucedo (7-3-1), Houle will face the Mexican Claudia Paola Rangel (2-2-0), Akedenis will challenge Lavisas Williams (9-1-1), from Rochester, New York, Heron will be opposed to the Mexican Alejandre Chavez Meneses (12-4-0), Adde will fight the Italian Stiven Leonetti (5-0-0), El-Safadi will face the Polish Jakub Laswoski (1-0-1), and the opening bout of this boxing show, Belfon will challenge the Greek Alexandros Kirsanidis (1-0-0).
