  Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Mikael Zewski: "I Believe That My Speed
& My Technique Will Produce A Win For Me"

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The Canadian welterweight Mikael Zewski, from Trois-Rivières, Québec, will have a major fight Saturday evening at the MGM Grand hotel-casino in Las Vegas. Ranked seventh contender by the WBO and eight contender by the IBF, Zewski (34-1-0) will face Egdijus Kavallaukas (21-1-0), from Lithuania, in a WBC Continental Americas championship

“I am more than ready for this challenge,” said Zewski in a press conference Thursday afternoon. “I know it will be a war, but I am ready to live it. I saw my opponent in action, he is fast and strong physically, but I know I have the weapons necessary to beat him. I got a great preparation, and I am positive I will deliver a great performance Saturday evening. I know I have the speed and the technique to win this significant bout. I know exactly what to do to be in the winning corner.”

Zewski is determined to have a world championship bout this year or next year. “A win Saturday will certainly help me to get a world championship bout in the months to come,” said Zewski. “It’s my goal. I would love to fight Terrence Crawford in a WBO welterweight championship of the world.”

December 14th 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York, Crawford won by TKO in the nine round against Kavallauskas. “The bout Crawford-Kavallauskas was a great fight, and I am sure that Saturday between Kavallaukas and me it will be another great fight,” said Zewski.

Kavallaiuskas said: “Zewski is a good opponent, no doubt about it, but I really believe I have the weapons to win it. Zewski said that he hopes to have eventually a world championship bout, but I have the same ambition. I lost my last fight with Crawford, but I am positive that this event increases my confidence in the ring. I know I have the weapons to beat Zewski. I got a fantastic preparation and I am extremely impatient to be in the ring. I really believe that Saturday evening it will be a magic moment in my boxing career. I know I got to stay concentrate on my fight’s plan from the beginning to the end of the fight and I will do it.”

The weigh in will be Friday at the MGM Grand.
