Browne Thinks He Can Surprise Beterbiev

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev will defend his WBC light heavyweight (175 pounds) world championship tomorrow night at Bell Centre in Montréal, in fighting the New Yorker Marcus Browne. Beterbiev is undefeated in pro boxing, his record is 16-0-0, and he won all his fights by KO or TKO. Ranked first contender, Browne has a pro record of 24-1-0, 16 wins by KO or TKO.

“My dream is to become world champion,” said Browne Thursday. “I know that Beterbiev is not an easy opponent, but I am really prepared to face this challenge.”

Browne’s trainer, Derrick James, said: “Derrick knows that Beterbiev ia a good fighter and a dangerous puncher, but my fighter worked very hard in training to surprise the WBC champion. He trained with fighters who has the Beterbiev’s style. Derrick is also a good fighter and a dangerous puncher. I am impatient to see the Beterbiev’s reactions when Derrick will hit him solidly.”

Browne knows that he will fight Beterbiev in his city. “I am not nervous at all. Beterbiev is living in Montréal, but he is coming from Russia. And I fought many times out of New York. I am ready to this challenge. I don’t feel obliged to win this fight by KO or TKO, I just want to get out of the ring in the winner’s shoes.”

Beterbiev’s trainer, the Montrealer Marc Ramsay, said: “Artur got a perfect preparation and like usual, I am expecting a very good performance from him. I know that it’s an important fight, but Artur is always at his top in the ring. My fighter is taking this bout very seriously.”

Just before this main event, the Montrealer female Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-1-0) will face the Mexican Cynthia Lozano (9-0-0) in a vacant IBF super welterweight (154 pounds) championship of the world,.
In a NABO cruiserweight (200 pounds) North American championship,Yan Pellerin (12-1-0), from Granby, Québec, will meet the Mexican Francisco Rivas (15-2-0).

The super middleweight (168 pounds) Steve Rolls (20-1-0), from Toronto, Canada. will face Christopher Brooker (16-8-0), from Philadelphia.

The lightweight (135 pounds) Movladdin Biyarslanov (8-0-0), a Russian living in Toronto, will be opposed to the Mexican Alan Ayala Crisosto (9-2-0).

The heavyweight Brandon Moore, from Lakeland, Florida, will fight the Mexican Abraham Pascual (14-8-0).

The Montrealer super lightweight (140 pounds) Mazlum Akdeniz (14-0-0) will meet the Mexican Arturo Bustamante (9-4-0).

Finally, Batyrhan Jukembayev (18-1-0), a super lightweight from Kazakstan, living in Montreal, will be opposed to the Mexican Juan Jose Martinez (28-10-0).

At the weigh in, supervised by the Quebec Athletic Commission, Beterbiev posted an official weight of 175.2 pounds, Browne 174.6.

Dicaire 153.0, Lozano 151.2, Pellerin 199, Rivas 198.2, Rolls 166.8, Brooker 166.4, Biyarslanov 139.6, Crisosto 138.2, Moore 231.6, PascuaL 273.2, Akedenis 139.8, Bustamante 138, Jukembayev 150.4 and finally, Martinez 158 pounds.
