In a surefire Fight Of The Year candidate, Super
Flyweight Juan Francisco Estrada (42-3, 28 KO’s) exacted
revenge over Roman Gonzalez (50-3, 41 KO’s) in a twelve
round slugfest. In front of a live crowd in Texas the
battle of these little giants was one for the ages.
In the early rounds Chocolatito took charge with a
punches in bunches attack. Estrada remained focused and
by the midway point he began to take control of the nip
and tuck battle. As the fight went into the championship
rounds it was up for grabs.
The final rounds did not disappoint as the two let the
leather fly. When the bell rang the outcome was left in
the hands of the judges. Scores read 115-113 Estrada,
115-113 Gonzalez and in the deciding tally Estrada was
given a questionable 117-111 score which gave him a
title retaining Split Decision victory. With that
Estrada held onto his WBC and WBA Super Fly titles.
