Boxing featured a five-fight card delighting a packed
crowd of enthusiastic boxing aficionados. The main event
proved to be the most exciting fight of the night
pitting Whittier’s George “El Yuyu” Acosta (13-1, 1 KO)
against Mexican Issac Avelar (16-5, 10 KO’s).
It was a classic matchup of the boxer vs the puncher
with Acosta being the former and Avelar the latter. In
this case it was the boxer Acosta who gave better than
he got. The fight was extremely close as both boxers had
their moments. Avelar wobbled Acosta early in the fight
but it was Acosta who dropped Avelar with a body shot in
the 5th.
It was a tough one to score but not for the judges who
unanimously had Acosta the victor with scores of 77-74,
77-74, and 77-74.
In the co-main event the fighting pride of Rancho
Cucamonga Richard “Cool Breeze” Brewart Jr. (12-0, 4
KO’s) dominated every round against tough Ramon Ayala
(25-7, 13 KO’s) out of Mexico City, Mexico.
Brewart let his hands go every round landing lefts and
rights to the head and body of the awkward Ayala.
Finally, in the eighth round Brewart dropped Ayala.
Ayala made the count and finished the round.
The fight went to the scorecards with all judges scoring
it the same, 80-71 for Brewart.
The pride of Norwalk, CA, Japhethlee Llamido (9-0, 3
KO’s) pitched a shutout against veteran journeyman,
Dihul “Elegante” Olguin (15-25-5, 10 KO’s) in this six
round featherweight matchup.
Llamido kept Olguin at bay with a stinging jab and sharp
right hands. Olguin’s agile footwork prevented Olguin
from connecting with anything solid. All judges scored
it perfectly for Llamido 40-36.
Leo “Bazooka” Sanchez (1-0) out of Indio, CA fought a
tough battle against Mexican pugilist Erick “Principe”
Espinoza (1-1-2).
The fight provided fans with non-stop action for four
solid rounds. Sanchez outslugged Espinoza to earn a
unanimous decision with all judges scoring the bout
40-36.
In the opening bout of the evening “Cool Girl” Stephanie
Chavez (2-0) spoiled the debut of Esli “La China”
Cervantes (0-1) earning a unanimous decision win. Chavez
out of Orange, CA used a stiff jab with a crisp left
hook to tattoo the jaw of Chavez on numerous occasions.
The short and stocky Cervantes made a valiant effort but
couldn’t penetrate the defense of Chavez. “Cool Girl”
Chavez remains unbeaten. Judges scorecards were 40-36,
40-36, and 40-36 respectively.
