Fight Fans Vote Miguel

Boxer Of The Year MIAMI, Florida -- For the second consecutive year, Miguel Cotto of Caguas, Puerto Rico was named the Boxer of the Year at the Premios Fox Sports which announced it Thursday night at the Jackie Gleason Theater in South Miami, Florida. The two-time world champion was in Miami to receive the award, which is voted by fans from all over the world. Cotto, 3-0-0 this year, became the WBA welterweight champion of the world on December 2 in Atlantic City with a sensational stoppage of fellow countryman Carlos "El Indio" Quintana. "We work very hard to succeed in the ring." Cotto said at the awards ceremony. "When that effort is recognized by the fans and media it makes all the sacrifices even more worthwhile." The other nominees for the award were Antonio Margarito, Carlos Baldomir, Marco Antonio Barrera and Israel Vazquez. Fox Pan American Sports Annual Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL is the only awards program of its kind to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Latino athletes and personalities from the world of sports both on and off the field. The show will be telecast on December 17, 2006 on Fox Sports Espanol and Fox Sports Latin America. TOP RANK PRESS CONFERENCE SET -- Two-time world champion Jorge Arce of Los Mochis, Mexico will be in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Dec. 20 to discuss his upcoming bout with Julio Roque Ler of Argentina at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Arce vs. Ler and Kelly Pavlik vs. Joe Luis Zertuche will headline the January HBO televised card 27th card. |
