UNDERCARD FIGHTERS LOOKING TO STEAL THE SHOW SATURDAY
Only days away from Saturday's epic bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View, early indications are that the undercard bouts on the 'Danger Zone' card are going to be just as explosive as the main event.
In the main co-feature, exciting Kassim 'The Dream' Ouma (23-2-1, 15 KOs), the former world junior middleweight champion, will try to move one step closer to regaining his crown when he squares off against perhaps the hardest puncher he has ever faced, Mexican knockout artist Marco Antonio Rubio (32-2-1, 29 KOs).
OUMA QUOTES "I am ready to fight and this is a great opportunity to have the chance to fight on a card with so many people watching. I plan to step on it and keep on going.
"Mayorga's crazy. He knows he's going to be fighting Saturday night. I just think he's getting nervous and using a strategy to take Oscar out of his game plan. But come Saturday night, we'll all be in the ring fighting our fights and let's see who wins."
RUBIO QUOTES "I know this is going to be a tough fight but I am totally ready to put it all on line. It's do or die for me and I know what I have to do. People will be shocked on the style I am going to use Saturday night to win this fight. The main event is definitely going to happen and we'll be fighting right before so everyone make sure you buy your tickets or pay-per-view. the fight and don't miss a second of it."
Also in action, another fiery puncher with dynamite in his gloves, former world junior featherweight champion Joan Guzman (24-0, 17 KOs) will put his undefeated record on the line when he makes his debut in the junior lightweight division against one of boxing's truest and toughest warriors, ex-world champion Javier Jauregui (51-12-2, 35 KOs).
GUZMAN QUOTES "I plan on stealing the show Saturday night and I am going to show everyone what kind of fighter I am—exciting, strong and a thrill to watch. I can put on a real show and remind the people they will be seeing me as the main event very soon."
JAUREGUI QUOTES "I'm in great shape and %100 ready to fight. I am going in there to give it my all and I am looking forward to coming out victorious. It's the weigh in Friday and there's no looking back after that. The show must go on."
And if that's not enough world class boxing action, opening up the HBO Pay-Per-View broadcast will be one of boxing's most highly touted prospects, junior welterweight Jorge 'El Maromerito' Paez Jr. (7-0, 7 KOs) , who clashes with fellow unbeaten Lowell Brownfield (7-0, 2 KOs).
PAEZ QUOTES "I can't wait to fight on television in front of all these people. My dad made our name a household boxing name and I plan to further our legacy. See you Saturday night."
"DANGER ZONE"— Eight-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya (37-4, 29 KOs) will face reigning WBC champion Ricardo Mayorga (28-5-1, 23 KOs) when the two meet for the Super Welterweight Championship Saturday, May 6 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nv. The bout will be presented by Golden Boy Promotions and televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View (9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST). |
