Freddy
Hernandez Signs With Gary Shaw
Welterweight
Will Make His GSP Debut On July 31
Gary Shaw announced today the exclusive signing of Mexican
welterweight contender FREDDY HERNANDEZ. Hernandez will make his
Gary Shaw Productions (GSP) debut on July 31 at Pechanga Resort
& Casino in Temecula, Calif., on the undercard of SHOWTIME'S "SHOBox:
The New Generation" event headlined by junior lightweight Marvin
Quintero and bantamweight Chris Avalos fighting in 10-round and
eight-round bouts, respectively.
"Freddy is a good fit for Gary Shaw Productions. An excellent
fighter with a lot of power who gives the fans their money's
worth with his all-action style," said Shaw. "I really am
looking forward to seeing him on July 31 at Pechanga."
Herandez (24-1, 18 KOs), from Mexico City, is riding a four-year
eight-bout unbeaten streak dating back to his lone loss, a
disputed one-point split decision loss to Golden Johnson on
February 25, 2005. He boasts an impressive amateur pedigree. His
graduating honors include being Olympic Festival Champion,
Mexican National Champion and Mexican National Juvenile
Champion.
"Freddy is fundamentally sound with solid skills. I think he can
be a real force in the welterweight division given the
opportunities Gary Shaw can offer," said GSP matchmaker John
Beninati. "He's been a staple on Telefutura where I have been
watching his progress since he went 10 rounds in winning a
unanimous decision against Soto Karass (11-1-1) in 2004. Freddy
will be fighting veteran Hicklet Lau (20-19-2) on July 31."
