Maysonet Stays Undefeated
On Friday night at the Palm Bay Center in Palm Bay, Florida,
rising lightweight star Jorge "Catano" Maysonet Jr. (2-0, 1
KO) notched his second professional victory by scoring a
four-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated
Farkhaed Shainov.
20-year-old Maysonet used his four-inch height advantage and
superior boxing skills to pitch a shutout on one card and
win 39-37 on the other two.
Sharipov was dropped by a powerful right hand in the first
minute of the fight, but gamely rose and withstood
Maysonet's world-class jab and several more strong right
hands to last the duration.
"Maysonet is tall lightweight and that means you have to try
and get inside on him. The way this kid can punch, that's
not going to be an easy job for any of his opponents," said
co-promoter Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions.
Maysonet is a former member of the Puerto Rican National
Boxing Team and was a highly decorated amateur. He is the
son of former world title challenger Jorge Luis Maysonet.
"Jorge has all the tools to someday be champion, and
experience fights like this against good opposition are what
will help get him there," added co-promoter Leon Margules.
