Cañizales Beats Valenzuela By Unanimous Decision

Venezuela's Carlos "CCC" Cañizales defeated Mexico's Germán "El Chile" Valenzuela by unanimous decision, 98-92, 98-92 and 99-91, to become the new WBA Light Flyweight Fedecaribe Champion last night on EstrellaTV's monthly boxing series Boxeo EstrellaTV. The series occurs on the last Friday of every month and is broadcast live from Foro Centenario in Mexico City.

The former WBA World Light Flyweight titleholder, Cañizales, returned to champion form in last night's fight. He asserted himself throughout the battle, showing the best of his arsenal and boxing repertoire, which was reflected in the judges' cards. With his guard up and waiting for the right moment to launch the counterattack, Cañizales set the pace of the fight and took advantage of Valenzuela very early on, who was slow to get into rhythm and find a way to connect with Cañizales until the fourth round.

While Valenzuela sought to punish Cañizales from medium and long distances, he went to the short field with hooks to the body and head, catching and finishing with a straight right to the face from his taller opponent, but did not know how to take advantage of his height. Both fighters got to connect solidly in the final rounds, and both finished the fight standing up.

In the semifinal battle of the night, Jonathan "Perita" Escobedo of Jalisco and Puerto Rican Wilfredo "El Bravo" Flores of Puerto Rico, tied with cards of 96-94, 95-95, and 95-95, in a 10- round lightweight fight.

Jerson Aguilar of Mexico City returned to victory after beating Yoamir Miguel "Yoa" Hernández of Mexico City by unanimous decision, 78-74, 77-75 and 77-76, fighting in an 8-round super featherweight fight.

Randy Jaret of Mexico City came from behind and beat Alejandro "Tuto" Vargas Magdaleno of Jalisco by unanimous decision, 60-55, 58-56, and 59-56, in a 6-round superlight fight.

Ulises Rangel "Ali" Bañales of the State of Mexico was surpassed by Andrés Martínez of Mexico City by unanimous decision 37-39, 37-39 and 36-40, in a 4-round middleweight fight.

Eric Xavier "TNT" Fuentes of Mexico City could not beat Emanuel Ramírez "El Necio" Farm of the State of Mexico, who took victory by technical knockout at 1:07 in the fourth round in a 4-round light flyweight fight.

In a 4-round bantamweight fight, Abraham Arreola “El Gallo” Calixtro of Mexico City beat Kevin Rodríguez of Pachuca, Hidalgo by TKO, 38 seconds into the second round.
