Darchinyan Wipes Smirk Off Mijares Face |
|
By William Trillo
I can't be real sure what WBA/WBC Flyweight champ Christian
Mijares was thinking while he was smirking at IBF Champ Vic
Darchinyan when the title unifying fight began but I do know
before the first was over Darchinyan turned Mijares smile upside
down. With one sweet left uppercut Mijares hit the deck hard and
he was lucky to beat the count and stagger back to his corner.
Over the next eight rounds Vic Darchinyan did what almost every
boxing writer on the planet said he couldn't do as he imposed
his will and strength on the hapless Mexican fighter Mijares who
looked out of sorts and uncomfortable from the opening bell.

I Must Be "Dreaming",
December 6th Golden Boy Card Shaping Up |
|
By William Trillo
If I told you I remembered anything about the undercards of the
last few Oscar De La Hoya fights I would by lying, but it looks
as though that may change for the upcoming card in December. Now
set to appear on the card is undefeated Super Bantam champ Juan
Manuel Lopez who will put his crown on the line against Sergio
Manuel Medina. With Victor Ortiz also on the card against
Jeffrey Resto and the possibility of Demetrius Hopkins (how
uncomfortable will that be) we may just have a decent night of
fights before we get to the Main Event of Oscar vs. Manny. I did
tell you Manny is going to defeat Oscar didn't I ?
I Usually Don't Go There but...
How 'bout them Raiders?

Israel Vazquez Answers Jorge Arce: "Let's Do It" |
|
Tired of the continuous taunting and excessive
calls to fight, World Boxing Council Junior Featherweight
Champion and “Pound for Pound” candidate Israel Vazquez has
agreed to former world champion Jorge Arce’s demands to fight.
“It’s getting ridiculous, at first when he started calling me
out I didn’t take him seriously but this has been going on for
over a year now, always the same thing with him. It’s like being
in a schoolyard with the little guy egging on the bigger kid.
Trust me, Jorge, I am not only bigger but better.

Raging Bull Gores Mijares |
|
|
By William Trillo & Bret Newton
at Ringside
It’s not often that the bull beats the
Matador but that's what happened on this night as Vic
Darchinyan dropped Cristain Mijares in round one then
kept up the attack…for as long as this one lasted that
is. Looking out of sorts from the opening bell Mijares
never got his rhythm and the wild and free swinging
Darchinyan was on his game all night. With one straight
left hand at the end of round 9 Darchinyan sealed the
deal as Mijares went down and out… El Permenente.
Darchinyan unifies the WBA, WBC and IBF 115 pound
titles.

Dirrell Pounds Relentless Oganov |
|
|
By William Trillo & Bret Newton
at Ringside
Victor Oganov would not stop putting on
the pressure on Andre Dirrell, but Oganov's attack was
to no avail as he was systematically picked apart by the
champion Dirrell who pecked , poked and pounded for six
rounds before referee Ray Corona brought a halt to the
bout at the 28 second mark of round six. Ahead on all
cards at the time of the stoppage, 50-44 & 50-45 twice,
Dirrell earns the Super Middle NABO title.

Quotes from Chavez Jr. vs. Vanda Press Conference |
|
By Glen Smith
Wednesday’s press conference was held in gorgeous surroundings
at the Border Grill at the Mandalay Bay. Pound4pound were there
to catch some of the quotes before the highly anticipated ‘Final
Impact’ showdown on Saturday night.
Bob Arum – ‘This is possibly the best card of the year, it was
toe to toe last time and a controversial decision, one judge
even scored it ten rounds to zero. There was beer in the ring it
was a riot! That’s usually from home fans when the decision goes
against their fighter but that time it was support for the
opponent (Vanda)’
