Top Rank Statement On Mayweather vs. Pacquiao |
|
To bleed, or not to bleed -- is that really the
question?
“More like Team Mayweather doth protest too much, methinks,”
said Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, the promoter of
seven-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
In response to the release sent out Tuesday by Mayweather
Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions which stated that
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao was “in jeopardy,” Arum had the
following to say:
“Let’s be very clear on the real issues we differ on. It’s not
about being tested. Manny is onboard with that since it’s such
a major concern of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. It’s about who does
the testing and the scheduling of the procedures. Manny will
submit to as many random urine tests requested. Regarding the
blood tests, he will subject himself to three tests; one given
in January during the week the fight is formally announced, one
thirty days from the fight, no later than February 13, and the
final one immediately following the fight, in Manny’s locker
room. The major issue related to the testing rests with which
independent agency will administer these tests. The United
States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) cannot do it because they will
not amend its procedures to accommodate the blood testing
schedule we have outlined. USADA, under its guidelines, would
have the right to administer random blood tests as many times as
they want up to weigh-in day and that is ludicrous.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao In Jeopardy As Manny Refuses To Comply
With United States Anti Doping Drug Test Procedure As Requested
By Floyd |
|
The mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny
Pacquiao is now in jeopardy after Golden Boy Promotions, on
behalf of Mayweather Promotions, learned today that Manny
Pacquiao is refusing to comply with Olympic style drug testing
as outlined and mandated by the United States Anti Doping Agency
(USADA) and as requested by Mayweather's management to ensure
fair play and sportsmanship by both fighters.
Early today Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, was
contacted by Top Rank President Todd duBoef, who informed
Schaefer that Pacquiao would not agree to have his blood taken
within 30-days of the bout based on the fighter's superstition
of testing so close to a fight.

Cintron: "A Fight Between Cotto & I Makes
The Most Sense...It's About Puerto Rican Pride" |
|
It’s Christmas time, but despite having a great
family to share the season with, Kermit Cintron is feeling a
little lonely. That’s because since his May victory over highly
touted contender Alfredo Angulo, it seems as though everyone
else from welterweight (where he has twice held world titles) to
junior middleweight (where he pulled a convincing upset over
Angulo) has forgotten about Cintron, the WBC #2, WBO #2, IBF #3
ranked contender.
To bide his time, Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs) fulfilled a lifelong
dream by returning to his native Puerto Rico and stopping
Juliano Ramos in five rounds. Now he’s back on the prowl for the
biggest names and toughest challenges.

Got a whole lot of money that's ready to burn,
So get those stakes up higher!
Amid rumors, speculation, innuendo and balderdash, the
most anticipated fight of the new millennium apparently
will not be heading to Jerry Jones' Dallas Stadium but
instead will be going to...drum roll please, Las Vegas.
That's right folks, according to multiple sources the
Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Maweather Pound4Pound title
fight is headed to sin city. Pacquiao’s Canadian
adviser, Mike Koncz, said that they always knew that Las
Vegas would host the fight. “As far as we know it’s
always been Vegas,” Koncz told The Philippine Star.

Pavlik Takes Out Overconfident

By William Trillo

WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly
Pavlik (36-1, 32 KO's) pounded out (take term literally)
a 5th round KO over a WBC #3 Miguel Espino (20-3-1, 9
KOs) who impressed many with his grit in going into a
phone booth type fight with Pavlik. It was a courageous
effort yes, but very fool hearty to think he could match
skill and power with a pure puncher like Pavlik. Espino
showed he was there to do whatever he had to do, hitting
after the bell to get a point taken away and throwing
low blows until Ref Steve Smoger emphatically warned him
not to do it again.

Round & Round the Floyd vs. Manny Wheel Goes
Where It Stops? Freddie Knows! |
|
|
By William Trillo
It's the most talked about fight of the
decade and it's not even official yet. Floyd Mayweather
Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is on the tips of everyone's
tongues and the most asked question by far is, "Where is
the fight going to be?" Depending on who you are asking
it seems the choices have been narrowed down to just 2
options, it's either Dallas Texas and the brand new
Jerry Jones' Land Shark Stadium or Las Vegas and
possibly an association of casino owners constructing a
temporary 30,000-seat outdoor stadium on the Strip to
host the welterweight title fight.
If you are asking Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach it
appears he already has a sense for where the fight will
end up. In an interview on Newsday.com Roach said, "We
don't really care where it goes,I feel like it's a Vegas
fight, to be honest with you. There's no way Mayweather
will fight in Texas."

Kelly Pavlik vs. Miguel Espino
Final Press Conference Quotes |
|
KELLY PAVLIK: It's been a long year for
me, very frustrating because of a series of setbacks. First it
was a hand injury, then it was an infection, then it was a bad
reaction to the antibiotic. And then rehab therapy for the
original injury. But now I'm back. I feel great. I have a huge
hunger to get back into the ring. On Saturday night it will be
'bombs away!'
MIGUEL ESPINO: Kelly is tall, lanky and hits hard. The key
for me is to stay focused throughout the fight, stay calm and
stick to the game plan. It's a good one designed to exploit
Kelly's flaws. I have every intention of making the most of this
opportunity. I'm excited and I'm ready. This is what every good
fighter dreams of, the chance to fight for the world
championship. I'm ready to take it to him.

Charles Adamu’s Crusade -
To Win Back Commonwealth Title This Friday |
|
This coming Friday, at York Hall in Bethnal
Green, Ghana’s Charles ‘The Crusader’ Adamu is focusing on
regaining the Commonwealth Super Middleweight title, that he
lost to Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch back in 2004.
Adamu, who will face Liverpool’s Carl ‘Dynamite’ Dilks, is not
leaving anything to chance. On a bitterly cold and wet Wednesday
evening, when only the hardy, or determined, would choose to
leave a comfortable, warm, hotel room, Instead of relaxing the
Ghanaian trekked across London to, Rooney’s Boxing Gym in
Southwark, so he could do some fine tuning of his undeniable
skills.

Jack Loew: "Kelly Is Ready To Drop Espino
More Times Than Tiger Wood's Trousers"
Pavlik vs. Espino Workout Quotes |
|
KELLY PAVLIK: Espina is in for a butt
whipping. I’m back and I’m 100%. My sparring partners have told
me I’m hitting as hard as I ever have. My hand feels great.
During my first sparring session I took it easy, but when I felt
no pain, I switched to normal sparring gloves and never looked
back. I don’t think the layoff was a detriment to me. I just
wish it had been for a different reason. But I feel excited and
refreshed. My weight is on target and I’m raring to go. As the
saying goes, ‘There’s no place like home.’ Making my return in
Youngstown in front of family and friends is just what the
doctor ordered.
JACK LOEW: The snap in Kelly’s punches is back. Over the
past seven day of training Kelly has returned to his world
championship form. Kelly is ready to drop Espino more times than
Tiger Woods' trousers!”
