Q: Dereck, why will you leave the ring as the winner on December 3?
DC: “Because I'm back to my best. Nobody will beat me when I'm at my best.”

Q: What do you think about fighting in front of 12,000 wild Finnish fans?
DC: “No worries at all. The more the better, the crowd against me will really spur me on to win. I'll be a bigger hit in Finland than Nokia!” Click Here For More

2011 Turkey Of The Year Award

By William Trillo
It’s that time of the year again boy’s and girls. With the holiday season thrust upon us Pound4Pound would like to hand out the first of the many year end awards that will soon be coming your way. In all honesty this year had many ups and downs and highs and lows. As the year was getting closer to it’s end it was becoming very hard to choose. There was David Haye giving boxing the middle toe, there was Joe Cortez sleeping on the job, there was a promotion called “Believe It Or Not” that was doomed from it’s inception and who can forget the “BANG BANG BANG” episode?

It was a toss up until November 12th, and that’s when all the aforementioned gaff’s took a back seat. Click Here For Full Blog

Alvarez vs. Cintron & Broner Teleconference Quotes
By Barbara Pinnella
After Oscar de la Hoya welcomed us to the call, he told us that Canelo is ready for the tough challengers; for all those who try to derail the “Canelo Express.” The main event with Alvarez against Cintron will be held in Mexico City.

SAUL “CANELO” ALVAREZ
: ‘I’m here and ready. We had a great training camp. Now I just have to worry about making weight, but I’m ready for Cintron.”

He was asked about his fight with Alfonzo Gomez. “I felt good in the Gomez fight,” he said.” I didn’t stick to my game plan but still won. But Cintron is bigger and stronger, and he’s a better fighter than Gomez. I’m not thinking about making a statement, I’m just going to do my job.”

KERMIT “THE KILLER” CINTRON
: The only opponent that had done real damage to Cintron was Antonio Margarito. Understandably, this question had to come up. Did Kermit think that Antonio’s gloves were loaded in that last fight with Tony?

“Only he knows, but it sure made him look bad. Do I have questions about it, yes, but I have no proof. Margarito was the only fighter to hurt and cut me. Cotto and I both ended up the same way. I’m a clean fighter.” Click Here For Full Report

Oscar vs. Chavez Jr.?
Vengeance Is Mine

By William Trillo
Photo-Chop: Bret "The Threat"

The day Oscar De La Hoya got out of rehab and announced to the world that he has never felt better I wrote that I fully expected him to climb back into the ring one more time so his career would not end on that awful Manny Pacquiao induced sour note. I am still sticking to my guns and believe that time is drawing near.

This weekend after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. defeated Peter Manfredo, Top Ranks Bob Arum started laying the bait to get Oscar out of retirement. After firing broadside on Oscar about his Twitter account Arum reloaded and shot another one across the bow when he said, "I would rather make a fight between Chavez and De La Hoya (as opposed to Jr. vs. Canelo). That would be a huge fight given that Oscar beat Chavez Sr. twice when he was towards the end of his career. Now it is kind of reversed and I think Chavez Jr. would be very interested in fighting Oscar," said Arum. Saturday night, while boxing fans around the United States and Mexico were focused on a less than competitive fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Peter Manfredo, a few thousand people gathered at Bally’s Atlantic City were treated to a real fight between Garrett Wilson and Chuck Mussachio. Now because it was not televised this fight will not be considered for Fight of the Year, and it won’t be discussed around the water cooler by most Americans. But these two fought with the heart of Juan Manuel Marquez in the ring with Manny Pacquiao.

Instead Of Watching Chavez Jr. vs. Manfredo

By William Trillo
I guess it could have been worse. I mean referee Laurence Cole could have let Peter Manfredo work through that meaningless Julio Chavez Jr. 5th round barrage and Peter most likely would have finished the round. But then we would have been subjected to possibly another 7 rounds of that atrocity. To those of you who complained the stoppage came too early I have one question to ask.

Did you really want to see anymore of that fight?

After seeing Manfredo drop his best shots on “Spoiled Brat Jr.” with little or no effect I feared we were all in for a long night. But thanks to Cole and his quick trigger we all were saved another 3 more minutes of that misery….and maybe a lot more. By Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
With the proposed Lee Selby vs John Simpson British and Commonwealth title clash falling through Francis and George Warren pulled out all the stops to ensure that Friday’s BoxNation televised event at the York Hall in London was up to the standard of their previous couple of events.

The brothers first elevated chief support - the Tony Conquest versus Toks Owoh Southern Area Cruiserweight Title clash - to main event and drafted in former two time Cruiserweight World Champion Enzo Maccarinelli to face Hungary’s unbeaten Georgy Marosi, in a Light Heavyweight contest, as chief support.

Chavez Jr. Stops Manfredo In 5
Photo: Chris Farina - Top Rank

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (now 44-0-1, 31 KO's) stopped Peter Manfredo Jr. in round 5 after a quick onslaught against the ropes along with a bit of a premature stoppage. Chavez was in control for the first 3 rounds, despite backing up the entire time. Manfredo chased him down, but threw very little in return. Chavez threw power left hooks and right hands, eventually punching himself out.

In round 4, Chavez stopped throwing punched and back to the ropes where Manfredo was finally able to land some shots. A right hand landed flush on the face of Chavez who looking like he was already out of gas. He was not playing possum.

In round 5, Chavez appeared too tired to go on much longer as he back to the ropes again. A counter right hand from Chavez sent Manfredo staggering to the ropes and Chavez suddenly came alive. It was obvious that he knew he had to get Manfredo out now because there was no way he could do a remaining 7 rounds. Chavez jumped on Manfredo throwing everything he had. Manfredo caught some good punches, but was still blocking and trying his best to dodge what he could. Manfredo still had his gloves up, and just as he jumped in to hold for the very first time, referee Lawrence Cole felt the need to halt the fight at 1:52.

Manfredo looked very alive during the assault from Chavez, and knowing Chavez was already punched out and running on fumes during that last flurry, all Manfredo had to do was survive and the fight would suddenly be in his favor. Manfredo falls to 37-7 with 20 KO's.
