Billy's Boxing Blog
Back In The Saddle Again |
|
By William Trillo
This weekend I made the trek to Las Vegas but it was not to
cover boxing. Once again I went to Sin City to cover the PBR's
Last Man Standing event. As usual I had a great time watching
the athletes perform in front of a wild Las Vegas crowd.
The two day event was simple enough. As the title of the show
stated, the last man to ride to the finish would be declared the
winner and take home the $100,000 prize.
This Spring Break show would be the last event before a well
deserved break on the tour that will resume in August in Tulsa,
Oklahoma.

Marc Ramsay: "I Am Not Surprised That
Golovkin Mentioned David Lemieux’s Name" |
|
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - Marc Ramsay, David Lemieux’s trainer, is not
surprised at all that the WBA middleweight champion of the
world, Gennady Golovkin, mentioned Lemieux’s name among his
eventual potential opponents.
One of the best fighters pound for pound in the world, Golovkin
(33-0-0), a fighter from Kazakhstan living in California, said
two days ago that he hopes his next three opponents will be the
Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto (39-4-0), the Mexican Saul Canelo
Alvarez (45-1-1) and the Montrealer David Lemieux… if David
(33-2-0), obviously, win the vacant IBF middleweight
championship of the world June 20th at Bell Centre in Montréal,
where he will face Nissan N’Dam N’Jikam (31-1-0), a French boxer
coming from Cameroon. Cotto is the WBC middleweight champion of
the world.

DeGale Tops Dirrell To Make British History
And Wins Vacant IBF Super Middleweight Title |
|
James DeGale (now 21-1, 14 KO's) won the vacant
IBF World Super Middleweight Title with a unanimous decision
over Andre Dirrell that included two knockdowns early. Dirrell
came out fast, looking to take control in the 1st, as well as
opening a cut over the right eye of DeGale in round 2. But then
a huge left hook from DeGale changed everything and sent Dirrell
to the canvas in that same round. Dirrell, up on shaky legs,
would be sent down a second time from another combination.
DeGale would hurt Dirrell again at the end of the 3rd and it
looked to be only a matter of time. However, DeGale suddenly
seemed tired and worn out, even though he never really jumped on
Dirrell in order to be punched out. This allowed Dirrell to
catch up on the scorecards. Going into the final two rounds it
all appeared even. DeGale showed just a bit more in each the
11th and 12th to have won the match. Final scores were 114-112
twice and a whopping 117-109. Dirrell drops to 24-2 with 16
KO's. With the win, DeGale becomes the first British fighter to
have won an Olympic Gold to also win a World Title.

It’s Triple G’s World And Everyone
In The 160 Pound World Lives In It |
|
|
By William Trillo
After another dominating performance in
Los Angeles it has become pretty clear to anyone with a
reasonably acute boxing IQ that Gennady Golovkin owns
the middleweight division and it won’t be long before he
holds all the belts that go along with it. That is
assuming anyone of the other Champions are willing to
put it all on the line against the man who just scored
his 20th consecutive KO.
By now we all know that Golovkin took Willie Monroe Jr.
into the 6th round and then disposed of him like he has
his last 19 opponents. It was the same scenario as
always, GGG beats his man until he collapses and then
after thinking a few seconds about taking more, the
hapless opponent says he has had enough.

desire is to get my four titles. I think that will
happen this year, that I fight a unified fight. Fight
against Nadjib is for me next step. I am not going to
