It’s Just A Fig Newton Of Your Imagination!

By William Trillo

Let’s be perfectly clear: I am well aware I rub many of you the wrong way. Of course there is another handful of people or more who believe I have no idea what I am talking about. And truthfully, I’m pretty sure the majority think both statements are true.

I can live with that, and in turn you have no choice but to live with this;

As much as my opinions may make you want to scream, keep in mind that I am not some journalist, (photo or otherwise), who attaches himself to fighters like a blood sucking Leach looking for a small piece of the purse and a tiny portion of the fame.

Right now would be a good time to put to rest any talk of GGG and Canelo being the fighters Jaime Munguia (30-0, 25 KO’s) has set his sights on next. Oh sure he beat Liam Smith (26-2-1, 14 KO’s) by a fairly convincing unanimous decision but Smith exposed a number of shortcomings that Munguia will need to work on before he climbs in there with the big boys.

  Usyk Dominates All 12 Rounds Over Gassiev To Unify Cruiserweight Division & Win WBSS Ali Trophy
Oleksandr Usyk (15-0, 11 KO's) became the Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion with a 12-round dominating performance over previously unbeaten Murat Gassiev (26-1, 19 KO's) in the World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Final. Usyk came into the fight with the WBC and WBO titles, Gassiev with the IBF and WBA titles.

Usyk used his reach and speed advantages to shoot out constant jabs and right hands, constantly moving, never letting Gassiev to get inside. Usyk controlled every moment of every single round. Gassiev would try his best, but could not get anything going. Gassiev would land a few body punches, but only one clean to the head at the end of round 4 which he was never able to pick up any momentum after.

Final scores were 120-108 and 119-109 twice. With the victory Usyk becomes the first undisputed cruiserweight champion since Evander Holyfield in 1988, and wins the Muhammad Ali Trophy.

Kathy Duva, CEO Main Events: "Thanks so much for joining in on this beautiful summer day. It is terrific to be putting a show back in Atlantic City. Back in the Etess Arena. Back in a place where a lot of us started out working with our good friends Bernie Dillon, Sharon Pearce and all the other nice people from Hard Rock who we know from way back when. It is always comfortable and feels right for me whenever we end up in Atlantic City where we began. Where we had so many terrific fights. Where Sergey has had so many terrific fights, including his double-title-winning battle with Bernard Hopkins. Where all the great Gatti fights took place. It's been a while. We've been away for four years and we're really happy to see the city coming back on an upswing. That has a lot to do with the good people at Hard Rock who have hit the ground running in the last few weeks with this newly renovated - to the point of you can't recognize it anymore - property.

  Pacquiao Dominates & Stops Matthysse In 7
Manny Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KO's) won the WBA Welterweight Title with his first stoppage victory in 9 years (2009 vs. Miguel Cotto) with a TKO in the 7th over Lucas Matthysse (39-5, 36 KO's). As soon as the first bell sounded Pacquiao was all over Matthysse. Pacquiao was first to land, last to land, in and out, he looked like his young self, making Matthysse look like the "old" one past his best tonight.

Pacquiao continued to dominate and dropped Matthysse in the 3rd with a perfect left uppercut on the chin through the guard. Matthysse would regain his senses and Pacquiao would remain calm, continuously picking him apart, round after round. At the end of round 5, following a quick left hook to the top of the head, Matthysse decided to take a knee, resulting in the second scored knockdown in the fight.

The end looked near as Matthysse looked like a broken down fighter. In round 7 Pacquiao kept on him with quick punches, scoring another one of those left uppercuts through the guard that dropped Matthysse for the third time in the fight. As referee Kenny Bayless continued the count, Matthysse spit out his mouthpiece in clear exhaustion which prompted Bayless to waive the fight off. Final time was 2:43.
