  The Passing Of Jimmy Thunder  
Banner Promotions has issued the following statement on the passing of it's former fighter, heavyweight Jimmy Thunder, who passed away on Wednesday due to complications of a brain tumor at age 54 in New Zealand.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to Jimmy's family. I was saddened to hear that Jimmy passed away," said Artie Pelullo, President of Banner Promotions. "He was a real good guy and true professional. It was my pleasure to be associated with Jimmy. He was a good fighter who gave the fans a lot of exciting fights when we promoted him, especially on the Tuesday Night Fights series on USA Network, where he had one of the fastest knockouts in boxing history when he knocked out Crawford Grimsley in 13 seconds. It's always sad to see someone pass away at a young age."

MONTRÉAL - The promoter of the GYM Group, the Montrealer Yvon Michel, confirmed that his organization will be very active before the end of the year. “We will organize five boxing shows at the Montréal Casino before the end of the year, and we are working to organize a WBO light heavyweight elimination bout between our fighter Elder Alvarez, and the Mexican Gilberto Ramirez,” said Yvon Michel Wednesday afternoon in a press conference held at the Montréal Casino. “The WBO will hold a purse bid for this crucial fight in March. And we are working with Top Rank Inc. to organize an important boxing show March 28th at the Videotron Centre in Québec City. On that show, the Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev will defend his two world championships (WBC and IBF) against the Chinese Fanlon Meng. No doubt in my mind, this year will be great one for our organization.” Beterbiev has a pro record of 15-0-0, Meng 16-0-0.

Golden Boy Promotions featured an 8-card lineup at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA this past Thursday night. In the main event of the evening Super Flyweight Ricardo “El Nino” Sandoval stopped Raymond “El Tornado” Tabugon to earn his 18th victory. Sandoval was at the top of his game. His wide arsenal of punches landed everywhere on the body and head of Tabugon.

  Avanesyan & Kelly Grudge Match At The O2 Mar. 28  
David Avanesyan will defend his EBU European Welterweight Title against undefeated rising star Josh Kelly in a bitter grudge match at The O2 in London on Saturday March 28, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

The rivals were due to meet at the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield back in December 2018 before an illness forced Kelly to withdraw from the contest on the morning of the fight, leading to "bottle job" jibes from Avanesyan's manager Neil Marsh as bad blood boiled over between the camps.

Kell Brook returned from a 14 month hiatus from the ring to stop Mark DeLuca in seven rounds at the FlyDSA Arena in Sheffield, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

A left hook flattened DeLuca and caused the referee to step in after Brook had spent the entire fight badly bloodying and hurting his visitor. The win sets up an exciting 2020 for 'The Special One' who now has plenty of options.

Lemieux Won’t Fight In Rimouski

MONTRÉAL - The former IBF middleweight champion of the world, the Montrealer David Lemieux (41-4-0), will be unable to face the Polish Robert Talarek (24-13-3) February 21st at the Rimouski Arena. Lemieux injured his back few days ago, slipping on an icy sidewalk in Montréal.

“David tried to train in the last days, but it was obvious that he was uncomfortable in the ring,” said the Lemieux’s trainer, Marc Ramsay. “David will fight when he will feels in perfect health. I guess that he will be able to fight in March or April. I mentioned to the the promoter Camille Estephan to cancel his fight with Talarek.”
