Our Readers Are Important To

Have you ever noticed that some of the fightsites out there
don't even acknowledge the fact they have readers? It's as
if they don't even exist and are of no value at all!
We here at Pound4Pound.com realize that our readers come
before anything else and without you, we are nothing!
That is why we are happy to post your emails right on the
front page with all the rest of our articles. We know that
you are informed and that you have opinions!
Take the most recent letter we received this morning in
regards to
Heavyweights Duckin' Heavyweights:
Read your article and I believe you are absolutely
correct in saying that the promoters (mainly Don King) is
what’s holding back the Heavyweight division from being a
free for all battle. We didn’t have these hang-ups it seems
back in the days. When we had Ali, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton,
George Foreman, Ernie Shavors, Leon Spinks Etc…That was the
real Heavyweight division, where anyone on their best day
was ready to fight and there was no question on making it
happen. However, we cannot sit here and completely blame the
promoters. The fighters are as much to blame as anyone else.
The boxers have a choice on how they sign off on contracts.
If you give total responsibility to the promoter on who you
fight next, then who is the fool? If you remember, Ali also
had Don King as a promoter at one time. Ali also told King
that he fought whomever he wanted, and King’s job was to
make sure that all was promoted to the highest level.
Trinidad had the same problem with King at the beginning of
King’s promotions, then that all got changed, where you
noticed it was always mentioned that King and PAPA Trinidad
had to sit down and discuss who was going to be next
opponent for Tito. I tip my hat off to Hopkins for not
allowing King to dictate on how his career would end up.
My opinion on the Heavyweight rankings is that it seems that
James Toney is regarded in several rankings as a top
contender for a title shot or close to one. I don’t think
that is fair at all. Trust me I do think he has a winning
chance with almost all of the titlists, but he has only
fought in the Heavyweight division for a few years. So what
he fought Holyfield!
He also fought a washed up, doesn’t know when to retire
Holyfield. Before Toney gets any title shots, I would like
to see him fight a fighter that has fought well and is not
near as retirement status as Holyfield was and is. Why not
put Toney against contenders like, David Tua, Hasim Rahman,
Andrew Golota, or Corrie Sanders. This way he can show if he
can take a hard-hitting punch from a fighter who is not
technically washed up.
On Vitali, I believe in bringing his “A” game he can clean
up the Heavyweight division, with the exception of Chris
Byrd. Not to say Vitali cannot beat him, but we know Byrd is
not going to stand and exchange with Vitali. Therefore, in
this case we would see a in shape Byrd equipped with track
shoes to make sure he doesn’t get hit with a Vitali hammer.
John Ruiz and Lamon Brewster are only a punch away from
being KO’d. It will eventually happen. When it does, no one
will be surprised, but instead asking on why it didn’t
happen earlier in their career.
